Generators and Inverters, Need Advise !

If your generator is running, is it supplying power to the converter, (charging the batteries)? I would like to install a 2000kw inverter (inverter only, not the inverter/charger combo) on my new Montana. Don't see any point in having a charger on the inverter if the generator and converter do the charging. Advise please,,,,

Thanks,

Dave
