Trip to London, Ontario, Canada

Pretty new to RV'ing but we're planning on a trip to Canada later this summer to work on the family tree. Would love any advice/guidance on crossing the border with the RV, insurance coverage concerns, places to stay, etc. We're coming all the way from Texas ...

We crossed over at Port Huron/Sarnia several years ago as a better alternative than to cross at Detroit. Of course, we had our passports and everything in order. Our friendly lab dog was in the back seat wanting to greet the border official. We were asked three or four important questions (none about the dog) and then welcomed right on in.

Last August we crossed over from Milk River/Sweetgrass on the way to Banff. Exactly the same procedure. Of course, they have the right to search as thoroughly as they may feel appropriate, but we have never had a minute's delay.

There are official web pages that will help you to be fully prepared.

We are going back to Ontario this Summer and will cross at the same place: Port Huron/Sarnia. We will be staying in the Fifty Point Conservation Area on Lake Ontario.

Seems a bit more strict coming back into US, but again we had no delay, just a few more pointed questions. Have your passports and everything in order and that's the best you can do.

We are also traveling from Texas.
