Switching Sofa and Chairs in 3400 and Heater Vent
So we did what everyone is talking about and now the sofa is over the heater vent. I like the look better but am worried the bottom of the sofa will get to hot. What did you all do?

Is it possible that the winter season is not the time to make the change? Maybe that is a springtime arrangement. Maybe use electric heat and save propane and your couch belly. Random thoughts.

Is there room under the couch for one of those diverters? The kind that force the air parallel to the floor? The ones I recall from our home had magnets to hold them in place on the vent cover. If your couch is like ours this probably wouldn't work.
Or go to Lowe's and get one of the adjustable vent covers, the kind you can close off the airflow. They fit in ours. This assumes you don't need every vent in the house to be spewing heat.

You could make your own diverter with a piece of cardboard or whatever and tape it to the vent. I wouldn't worry too much about the bottom of the couch getting too hot, that is where I would sit! LOL We have a number of vents covered in our house and it's just fine. In fact, the couch in the formal living room has been sitting in front of 2 vents for 7 years and it hasn't hurt it one bit.

In my 3280 at the end of the counter is a vent and I put a small refrigerator on top of it after replacing the vent with one that closes.

We also have a vent at the end of the counter but have a foot-step chrome trash can there. After cooking the garbage once there's now some cardboard between vent and can.

Have vent at end of counter with plastic diverter attached by magnets. Trash can is next to it. Works great as long as you remember to remove diverter before retracting slide. Otherwise it gets smushed and you get to buy another.

Cooked garbage, mmmmm! LOL We keep the dog dish and her water between the vent and the end of the counter. It's fine until the heat turns on and blows on her, she gets scared and runs off.   No one said she was the brighted bulb on the tree.
