Campground info to visit Grand Canyon
On the way to the Camp Verde Rally we want to visit the Grand Canyon and spend a couple of days in the Flagstaff Area. We will be caravaning with three rigs and usually stay in RV parks. Any reccommendations?
Thanks, WD

We stayed at Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams. It was really nice. If you get a chance, try to take the train into the park......great fun. We highly recommend the park and the train. Enjoy!!

There is a campground right in the park. Actually there are two parks located almost back to back. One is run by the park service and one is a commercial operation. No services in the NP CG. But the "commercial" CG has full hookups.
I don't know about the NP CG but the "commercial" park should not be too busy this time of year. But you should secure a reservation BEFORE you arrive at the park. We were asked at the entrance gate whether or not we had a reservation.
You are just steps away from the south rim. Almost everything is within walking distance. There is a bus service too.
Remember you are about 6-7 thousand feet elevation on the South Rim. The North Rim is about 7-8 thousand feet. It gets cold at night! Our water hose froze. But by noon it was OK and working normally.
I believe there may be a CG near the West Gate entrance area. I know they have a fleet of helicopters located near there. If you want just a quick peek at the canyon then the train idea is really kind of nice. It will deliver you right to the edge of the rim. From there you can take a bus or walk to many of the major views. Good luck and enjoy. See you soon. Dennis

Hi The DW and I worked the North Rim for two seasons 08 and 10. Thier is only one way in Hwy 67. It starts at Jacob Lake and ends at the North Rim. Half way in Kaibab Lodge its a state park next to it on the right. Then there is a camp grounds inside the National Park and its has a forest around it and is right on the edge of the Canyon. Camp Shower and Laundry room, and country Store. We have been to the South Rim it's very busy and hectic were the North Rim is slow paced and very special. I would go back to work there again and again. Hope this helps.

We used to always stay at an RV Park just East of Williams on I-40 about 3 or 4 miles (Believe it was the next Exit after Williams going East). Can't remember the name of the campground now. Very Nice park and they have a small cafe and store also. We always got the sites numbered in the 90's, right side as you enter. It was our favorite place to stay when we were in that area.

Hi,
We compiled a bunch of information about the South Rim of the grand Canyon - here's a link.
Have fun!
