Extended Warrenty
Going to sign the papers soon on the 3400RL and we are tossing around the question of " Is the extended warrenty worth it" Not ever owning a 5er before, just class A rigs, we just are not sure. Would love to hear from all of you on this topic.

In the archives you will find this discussed extensively. The opinions are all over the board. I have had two claims against the extended warranty, so I am ahead of the game.
The first was the replacement of the landing leg motor and gear box. That paid for the policy. The second was the replacement of the evaporator coil on my main A/C, another expensive repair. My deductible is $50 for each event. Needless to say, I am a proponent of the extended warranty.
I would, however, purchase it at the end of the Manufacturer's warranty, otherwise you are paying double for the first year. The dealer has a vested interest in getting you to buy at point of sale. He adds to his profit line. Good Sam has a program that seems to work for many, but their are other policies. It is only as good as the provider's claim department.

You'll get a lot of opinions on this one. May I suggest that if you'd get the extended warranty for a new class A then get it for a new fifthwheel. And vice-versa.

I purchased the extended warranty and everytime I have tried to use it the replacement part was not covered. If you purchase one make sure you get an itemized list for the coverage.

A good extended warranty will pay for itself, if used. Ours listed everything that was covered and everything that was not covered. Ours paid for itself twice over.

I bought "The Choice" extended warranty and have been very happy with them. One thing to check out if you decide on purchasing the EW is; how long can you purchase it for the current price?? I bought my coach in April of 2004, and had one full year from day I purchased the coach to buy the EW from The Choice. As long as the coach was under the 1 year factory warranty, they had no problem assigning an additional seven years of coverage. I liked the idea of socking the $1,150 away for 11 months before I had to by the EW. In March of 2005 I went back to my dealership and gave them my check for $1,150 and walked away with an additional seven years of full hitch to ladder coverage.

We purchased from "the shield", which is "the choice" you do need to do extensive
homework before you purchase. An exclusionary policy is preferred as they clearly state what is NOT covered...everything else is..simple as that. The BBB states that the primary cause for Extended Warranty complaints is that the consumer did not read or understand the terms of the Warranty. I did the same as Dave above and purchased after about 7 months of ownership. Our 1 year keystone bumper to bumper warranty is now up and execpt for individual vendor warranties we sre on our own. By the way..these are NOT warranties but "Extended service contracts"..there is a big difference.
