Converter

Hi folks,
Does anyone have a link to a site where I can read up on the converter in our 3400Rl Montana's, I have no information on it at all.
Is it a 3 stage Boost, storage, and desulfation as well as normal mode?
Also is it a 60 Amp.? (Could be 45, 60, 70, or 80.)
I don't even know the brand name or model. (I know it's up there, but I have both of my panels and all the associated wiring hanging in the way.)
I hope there is a link out there somewhere.
Thanks for your help.

All I can tell you is that it has two 30 amp fuses. I know cuz we just had to replace them both.

Check out the little IQ4 plug and play. I bought one and my generator charges the battery faster now. I can get the model # that is my Montana if you need it. You will see the jack that the IQ4 plugs into on your convertor..

The Iota Converter is a 55 amp model. The model number is either DLS 55 or IDP 240. I only looked at it briefly and saw both numbers...since it was 500 degrees in the rig, I left. Next time I go to the storge area, I'll look again.

Hopefully, the converters are single output and not dual output, and are the 'smart' kind so they do not fry our batteries.

Ozz,
A simple IQ4 plug will turn it into a 3 stage charger you requested, but not with out the IQ4 plug. They are about 30 bucks.

The correct model is a DLS 55.

The web site states that it "maintains the battery, only putting back what is required by load or self discharge. It is also available with an IQ Smart-Controller already integrated into the unit providing 'smart charging' capability."

Integrated meant to me it's there...however, when I clicked on 'smart-controller' it inferred that this was something I needed to buy.

Surely a $60k rv has a smart controller! Think I'll email Iota.

I agree, it should be the 3 stage, we really need that, to maintain a good charge, quick recovery and the desulfation process. I thought it would be around 60, they aren't going to give anything extra for the $60K.
I'm running Two 6 volt Golf cart batteries for the extra power, I want it to be the best it can be.

My sons new Cougar did come with a smart charge multi stage type converter, (not Iota brand though) If you have an 07 Montana, it might have the same thing.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda but by now you should know how the RV industry works. The IOTA 55 converter installed by Keystone does not have the "smart charge" capability. For that you have to buy the IQ4. $25 bucks or so from several web sites. Works very well.

On edit: here is a picture of the IQ4 (the silver cube on the plywood wall) along with the much more accessible IOTA DLS 55 installed in a 2955RL.

Yes that little IQ4 is worth the money and I attached it to the wall like Carl did.

My 06 2955RL does have easy access to the convertor, furnace, and water pump through the wall panels in the basement.

Hey Don, did you see my access? And you can't stand on the toilet seat, it is so thin, you would fall in!
I will ask Sue to order one.
Thanks everyone.

Looks like it's unanimous.

This is from IOTA:

"We have 2 models. DLS-55A - (standard units that do not have the smart controller built inside) therefore an option is to purchase the Smart Charger. It plugs right on the top of the converter.

AND

DLS-55W/IQ4 ( this unit has an smart charger built inside internally )"

Translation...we have to purchase the 'smart charger' if we want one.

Cat 320, Sue just ordered one, the people there are great. I think the previous posters had the cost, it will save many headaches, and probably batteries, down the line.
