Unhappy Lippert is going the wrong direction.

I happened to munch my OEM entry steps on our Montana on my last trip to Canada. I did a temporary fix until I returned home that worked. the OEM steps were manufactured by Hickory Springs MFG. CO. they used a 10 ga. cold role steel in their manufacture which was good and strong not any sideway flexing. the company has since been obtained by Lippert Inc. and they now manufacture the steps in a lesser gage steel, 12 ga. to be accurate and cheaper construction less load capacity 300 lbs, and a lot of flexing when approached from the side. Its sad that a company can take over another and cheapen the quality of what was a great product and make it less. I very disappointed with Lippert.

When you buy a company you do it to make money so you get rid of people and make their products cheaper. Of course that catches up with you.

Probably driven by getting weight off - every once counts to lighten rigs up.

That for sure Lynwood I have seen that when I was turning the tools.

the weight factor is a major problem with all RV's I believe. Lippert frames are made from two pieces of channel welded back to back to make an I beam, of course if a real I beam that size it would be very heavy.

I believe that when they started providing things for the 'light' and 'ultra-light' bunch that wanted to make RVs that could be towed by 1/2 ton trucks they also found they could save some bucks by making everything out of tin foil. It's not just the manufacturing costs, it lowers shipping ones too.

Did you ask Lippert if they had a heavier duty option?

I just ordered a new set of Hickory Springs steps. Was there a better option?

What seems odd to me is that they have ditched the MORryde pin box and suspension.

Apparently MorRyde was just under bid. A matter of $.

I can't tell any difference on our new 2018.
