Replacing grease seals

I want to check my brakes and possibly grease the wheel bearings. Do I have to replace the grease seal after pulling the drum to check the brake lining? After checking one of the wheels, if the brakes look OK, I may just button it back up and wait until after my next big trip to grease the wheel bearings.

I pull them all the time to check the brakes without replacing the wheel seal. Just be gentle going back on and all will be fine. I don't get some's thinking on always replacing the seal. You're not going to damage it pulling the wheel off as the seal is already on the ledge on the spindle for the seal ... going back on is when you have to be careful whether it is a used or new seal.

I always put new seals in. Not a big deal, not expensive. Some do, some do not. But then, I only check the brakes when repacking the bearings.

Thank you for your replys. I've only put 6500 miles since new brakes were put on because overheating and damaging the brake shoes.
