Road Side Safety

From my early driving days, I have a set of reflector triangles that I can put out should I have to pull to the side of the road for an emergency.

Here is some information from DMV Texas:

"If you must stop on or by a one-way or divided highway,
place warning devices 10 feet, 100 feet, and 200
feet toward the approaching traffic.

When putting out the triangles, hold them between yourself
and the oncoming traffic for your own safety. (So other drivers
can see you)."
(Waynem note: Can be up to 500' away depending if you are on a large curve and visibility may be limited cominging around the curve)

Waynem, this is some of the safety rules that are taught to us when we were doing our cdl training. Sometimes, it might be a good idea to pick up the free instruction manual from the DMV and read some of the state rules/laws in any particular state.

Sounds like you're making a nice target there. (Just kidding)

Will -- Unfortunately you may be closer to the truth than intended. We had a state highway worker killed last week in western kansas -- was holding a triangle (moving it actually) and the person that hit him sayed they were trying to see what was going on and swerved into him.... Speed wasn't a factor -- the driver just wasn't watching where they were going and turned the way they were looking...

I used to cary triangle(s) and flairs; fell out of that habit but need to pick it up again. Now they have chemical flairs vs the 'torch' ones; have even seen some battery operated gismo's that looked to do pretty well. Would hate to leave those behind though....
