We full time in our 2017 3661RL Montana and yesterday after setting up the shower drain was plugged, first time this has happened. The sink drained fine. I poked a coat hangar wire down the drain and eventually got it to drain. It appears the shower drain pipe does down and directly into gray tank #1. If this is the case how does one add any drain cleaner to keep the drain blockage from happening again? Is there a roto rooter type device I can purchase to clean out the drain pipe? Also, does the cross hair thingy in the drain and under the chrome strainer at the bottom of the shower stall come out? Its plastic and I'm afraid to put to much pressure on it to remove it, if I break it there might be no way to screw the chrome strainer back into the drain. Is there a good preventative drain cleaner on the market? Thanks for any suggestions!

First of all your shower drain has a thing that looks like this in the line in the basement: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004A2YFG4...=1QSG7NJW22OCT It functions as a P trap and has a membrane in it that closes and also can get clogged with hair. I made the mistake and ran a coathanger down there and puctured the membrane so I had to replace it.(easy to do) Now we use the funnel shaped screens in all our sinks and the shower. Easier to clean the hair out of one of those and you'll be surprised at how much there is.

We also have that Hepvo thing in the shower drain. When ours gets crudded up, I just use a small bottle brush past the cross thing and clean the membrane. Works well and I don't have to remove it from below. We also have one of these under the vanity sink, and that one I have to remove to clean, but also use the bottle brush once I have it out.

I'm a retired plumber and I made the mistake of using a snake on my shower without pulling the panel on the front and looking under it. I had to order a new Hepvo Trap from Amazon. Lesson learned! I also learned that if you need to replace it, order the 1 1/4" one. The body is the same as the two inch and the only difference is the elbow that attaches to the shower strainer. Just use the old one if it is a 1 1/2". You would really have to be creative to have damaged the old elbow.

We keep those little screens in all our drains, cheap insurance, a buck or two for a package of one large (kitchen sink) one medium (shower) and one or two small (bathroom sinks).

Replaced the whole thing with a schedule 40 p trap. No more refusing to let water into the Grey tank, no more tank gases into the bathroom.

I generally get them at Flea Markets, but most any Kitchen type store should have them, probably even avail at Lowes or Home Depot type stores.

Either you can go by replacing the whole setup or else you can take the help of the professionals to get your problem solved. There are number of drain cleaning professionals you can look for. Some of them I know are drain repairs NJ, Simple drain repairs, Drain King and many more. You can go with either of them or else can choose the option in which you are comfortable with.
