Heat Duct

I have a 2004 3255RL. While working on a leak under the shower I noticed a heat vent on the base of the shower with a hole in the floor from down in the basement but no duct work. Does anyone know if there should be duct work connected? I spoke to a customer sevice rep, with a voice like Louie Armstrong, which with my diminished hearing was very hard to understand, and he didn't know either. It seems like all this hole will do is let cold air enter the bedroom from the basement area without duct work attached. Hope someone could look at theirs and respond. Thanks in advance.
