Trailer King Tires - Ticking time bombs?

We have a 2016 Montana 3790RD that has seen little travel time. We recently traveled about 130 miles to a campground and on the way back had one of our tires explode. It not only blew out, but caused significant damage to the RV in the process. Anyone have any experience with the supposedly better tires that Montana is using now???

Trailer Kings are no better, probably worse than Marathons. Don’t know what the standard tire is being used on the 2018 models. Majority of folks seem to either upgrade or swap out on their own ASAP. Sorry to see that damage on your fiver.

Our 2017 came with Sailuns. If they're still doing that, Keystone is finally owning up to the need for real tires. We wouldn't have taken it without Sailuns or G614's but it wasn't an issue because all the new rigs on the lot had Sailuns.

My 2017 HC came with 110 psi wheels and Rainer tires. My 2016 Cougar came with Trailer King on 80# wheels. Both went straight to the tire shop. Carlisle on the Cougar and Sailun on the Montana. The Carlisle were LR F, NOT E, and I ran them ay 90 psi. Less than 45 miles on trailer begore new tires

Lots of new units now have the Sailun tires or the Goodyears, both are G rated and 110 lb rated at 4K plus per tire which gives you plenty of safety factor for 7k axles. I personally replaced my Trailer Kings with the Sailun brand. Peace of mind for towing now, also rated for 75 MPH if I remember correctly.

Ugh, that's an ugly picture. Sorry you had to go through that, but depending on the weight of your Montana, G's or maybe LT tires are the way to go. Stay away from the E-rated trailer tires.

Your damage is why so many of us on the forum told people to replace their tires as soon as possible when they had marathons, trailer kings, etc. Good luck with the repairs.

I’ve been around here since 2004. Tires are always the hot topic in the summer and this is the reason. Some people think they have the magic formula, don’t drive over some magic speed keep them inflated just like their brothers father in law’s best friend’s cousin. The real magic formula get rid of them. Get a set of G rated tires. Problem solved.

We were parked next to a smaller SOB rig a couple weeks ago, and in talking to the fellow, found out he had the trailer kings on his rig, and even though his rig probably didn't weigh much more than 11,000 lbs, he had a blowout that did $5300 damage. The repairs looked great, and needless to say, he had upgraded to much better tires not made overseas.

Needless to say he could have upgraded to even better tires, those made in China by Sailun.

We have a 3582, it had tlr kings on it one trip is all it took, the side walls are so thin, this is what causes the tar to wallow from side to side. Went with GY 614s on the tlr, and Michelin defenders on the truck, 9000 ml. No problems Gys At 110 psi , truck 85 psi .Also use heat gun to co tires and bearings every 2_3 hrs never hurts to do a walk around, 46 yrs and 4.5 million miles picked up a little .don't talk short cut on tires, remember, they went with the lowest bidder . Sailuns on our '18 3811, just installed Defenders to replace the new GoodYears on the Denali.
I also have had great experience with Triangle trailer tires, but they only go to E rated

Here is something new I just found. Discount Tire is marketing a tire called Hartland that they clime is made for them by the same company that makes Sailun's??

I have researched this on the internet reading many forums and it seams to be true. The tire weighs a bit less but is G related?

I think It's Discounts answer to Big O offering the Sailun's.

Anyone hear anything about this?

A word of caution. Just because Sailun makes the Hartland tire. it does not mean they are made to the same standards as a Sailun branded tire. That may explain the weight difference

LOL, actually have them on my cargo and car trailer also had them on our last camper. very round and balance easily.
Much unlike the Trailer kings that I replaced on the camper and car trailer

Two consecutive trips with a trailerking blown tire

June 3rd and July 4th , both exploded and damaged my 3950BR, right side was not so bad but right side needs shop repair. I was traveling at 65 mph, pressure per owner manual, tires look like new but heat of the road was too much. Considering replace all but waiting response from manufacturer about my claim. Very frustrating
