Tire pressure monitors

Just purchase our first Montana 3731fl and we pick it up tomorrow. This past March we were towing our 2005 grand junction and had a tire blow out on RV. I believe if we would of had a tire pressure monitor we would of caught it in time. Looking for recommendations on a good system to purchase.

Tire monitor systems can not alert to a blow out, that is a sudden and catastrophic failure of a tire. They will alert to a loss of psi that if allowed to continue cause a tire failure that looks and feels like a blowout and causes the same damage.
We have had tire monitors on both our Montana's since 2006 and will not leave home without one.

Just installed a TST 507 system to replace my piece of crap Tire Trakker. So far loving the TST.

TST 507 seems to be owned by more than any other brand. But there are 2 or 3 other brands that people are happy with also. And they do have very good customer service.

TST 507 is the way to go but as Rich said it will not prevent a blowout most of the time unless you are running with tires way under inflated.

X2 on Rich's comment about blow out issue. We have a Pressure Pro for the past 11 years and would not go anywhere without it. My advice for tire blowout issue, keep very detailed records of the actual age of the tires, when you installed them, and check them every few days when traveling. I also set a limit of no tires over 3 years old on our rig that is relatively light (weighs in at 12,000 lbs loaded) compared to todays new heavier rigs. Also--weigh the rig when it is fully loaded for travel. Now--yes I have had blow outs even with these practices!

I purchased the EEZTIRE TPMS last year and I haven't had any problems with it - multiple trips. My Montana is only 35'9" pulled by a short bed truck. I say that because if you have a longer RV and 8' bed in your truck I'm not sure if you would have any issues with distance and sensors connecting to the base unit. They do sell a repeater that you can put in the front living space of your RV if you have any problems. Hope this helps. Sean

Welcome to the forum. We use the Tireminder A1A, it monitors the pressure / temp and is very easy to install.

A TPMS may not prevent a blowout. But it will alert you that you have had one and maybe help minimize the damage

We have had both the pressure pro and now the TST .We did not have a problem with either one of them.We never had a problem with them dropping out on both our 06 3400 and the 13 3402 and the rigs were pretty much the same length.

We were advised early on to mount the monitor high enough on the dash the so the antenna is above the dashboard with a clear shot out the window.

Just returned from a trip to Oregon, and it was reassuring to constantly monitor not only the pressure, but the temperature as well, which could give warning of impending problems. TST507 for me.

Just purchased a Bellacorp TPMS system on Amazon for $200. Great price. Very easy installation after phone call. Great customer service. Texas based company. Seems well made. Taking first trip this weekend. Will follow up.

My personal opinion is if you get one of these systems than you may rely on it instead of doing a visual inspection of your tires. I check them every time I get fuel. i feel them to make sure they seem to be the same temperature. A low tire will be hotter than a tire properly inflated. Every time i dump my tanks i give the inside of the tires a good look. Ya I have to go to the other side also. I tow my rig all over the place. have only camped in it twice. LOL. had some abnormal tire where and replaced the tires and had a alignment. Tires are now fine. have over 30,000 miles on 2 of my tires and around 6,000 on the original tires put on my 5er when I bought it. I would just save my money and time buy something nice for the wife.

Any time we stop for fuel, food, or rest I walk around and look at the tires for any thing that doesn’t look right. But tires don’t conveniently go low or overheat while you are stopped. We often drive for 2-3 hours or more non stop. If I picked up a nail pulling out of the last rest stop and start losing air, I want to know before it loses enough air to damage that tire. I may have time to drive a few miles to the next town and a tire shop. And the 2-3 hours later may be too late. There is a certain measure of comfort being able to see tire pressures and temps any time you want.

Our TST 507 Flowthrough saved us from damage a few months ago when a metal stem failed. Gave us enough time with air still in the tire to get safely off the road. Would not be without them.

Personal Friends have the Tire Minder and had a blow-out and didn't even know until a passing car waved them down. Their monitor still said everything was normal.

After one close call with a blowout when I was just pulling into a rest stop, I got the TST507. Great system, gives me peace of mind, since I can’t see the tires in my mirrors. Pain in the butt to change batteries, but that’s OK. I have the warnings set for 70psi and 120 degrees. But I also check the tires every time I stop. With the TPMS, rear view monitor, and sometimes dash cam, the cockpit is getting busy!
