Anyone have experience with Tyron Bands?

The dealer that I have order my Monty from is selling these “blowout protection” bands. They are about $700 per pair. I have never heard of a product like this and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

Just by initial look at the design - I would say it is a lot of money to spend on something that looks like it doesn't provide enough protection.

Our ambulances (old job) were required to have a run flat system which was actually an inner non-air inflated tire that only allowed the tire to drop a couple of inches. In fact the entire tire could blow off and the inner rubber system would keep you from loosing control. If the outer tire was not damaged beyond use, you could continue driving without any air (hence get your patient to his destination). BMW uses a similar system as an option.

LonnieB or Glenn may have some more insight, but I just don't see this system as filling enough of a gap between the tire and the rim to prevent bead loss, and sure doesn't look like it would stabilize the tire on the rim enough to keep control any better than without it.

All I gotta says "Just when you thought you've seen everything" To me it looks like just another gimmick to get your money. I wouldn't pay 7 bucks for such a gimmick muchless 700 bucks. Brad pretty much said it all.

JMHO, but save your money.
Brad pretty much hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. The biggest flaw I see, is the fact that there is nowhere for the bead to get relief when mounting or dismounting the tire. This means the bead will have to be stretched and STRESSED a great deal to get it over the rim. It just looks like another gimmick to me, and 700.00 is a lot of money for a false sense of security.

Glenn, Lonnie, a question for the tire guys. Can I put michelin LT tires Like what was on my f-250,on Monty without any problems?I'm looking at about 10,12k miles a year if I can .Thanks, Bill

Prior to deciding to buy a new Monty it was my intention to take my LTs off the GMC when they were about half worn and put them on the Monty. Than I would buy 4 new tires for the TV. This way I would be replacing my 4 year old trailer tires with decent rubber and getting 4 new TV tires for just the cost of the 4 new tires plus mounting and balancing.

Of course all this depends on the TV tires being compatible to what you are taking off of the trailer.

For instance...
The TV has LT245/75R16E rated at 3042# at 80PSI
Monty has LT235/85R16E rated at 3042# at 80PSI
The only difference being the 245/75 would be a tad wider and a tad less in circumference. Very compatible.

OR you can go out and buy 4 new compatible Michelins for the trailer.

I agree with Glenn, but would like to add a bit to it.
My trailer has ST235/80R16 LR E Mission tires on it now, with a load rating of 3520 lbs. at 80 psi. The outside diameter calculates to 30.8 inches. The LT245/75R16 LR E has a load rating of 3042lbs. at 80 psi., with a diameter that calculates to 30.47 inches. The LT235/85R16 LR E has a load rating of 3042 lbs. at 80 psi., with a diameter that calculates to 31.73 inches.
Given this information, and my own personal experiences, I still trust the LT tires with the lower load rating, over the ST with the higher load rating. I have no reservations about putting the LT's on my trailer, but you will have to do what you feel comfortable with. I also only carry 72 psi. in the Mission tires, not 80.

Don't forget - maximum speed rating on an ST is still 65mph.

No problem; as always I got my answer very quickly from the board.

I also have learned much from the in the 7 months I have been reading it; as a complete newbie to 5th wheels I have really needed the help!

BIG NEWS!
I talked to my dealer yesterday and he said that my 3075 should be built this week. It could actually make it here to California by Christmas but I don’t planning on picking it up until January as we will be away for the holidays.

Great news Grant! You got it in before the Plant shuts down for 2-weeks over Christmas! No idea where mine is in the line, but I suspect it is still just a piece of paper hanging on a clip!

No urgency, as I wouldn't pick mine up till January either.

I have put LT tires on trailers with no problem. Also, Montana and other brands CAME from the factory with LT tires in a couple of recent years. Just make sure you use the correct size. Don't use the truck's tires if they're the wrong size.

Brad, your dealer should have a build date when he gets confirmation of the order. That should be within about a week of placing the order. You might keep on top of him for the build date.
