monroe trailer shocks
Just read an article on Monroe trailer shocks in trailer life mag. Went to Monroes website and read info. My 2005 Mountaineer 348 RL fiver came with leaf springs only. It tows well, but would it be a big improvement to add shocks to save on wear and tear to trailer and appliances? Thanks, Ray

YES, I put shocks on my 06 Montana and it made a real difference. Cost around $500 for parts and labor.

Bob, did you have Monroe do it or another shop? Did the price include adding brackets or did you already have mounting brackets? Thanks, Ray

I got the shocks and upper bkts from Moryde and the lower shock plates from Dexter. I had a local fab shop who makes small trailers install them. The parts were around 250 and labor was 250. I was lucky as he quoted me, but had to pull the underbelly pan and that took extra time, which I did not have to pay for

Thanks for all your help. I talked to my local Monroe shop, they're too small to fit the trailer in their lot. I'll check the truck spring etc shop. Ray

Not to confuse the issue, but I don't think Mountaneer uses the Mor-Ryde system, so that $500 price tag is probably a lot less for Ray. The new Mountaineer uses a Trailair system.

My Mountaineer only has old fashioned leaf springs. So I has to start from scratch to add shocks.

The shocks cost about 40bucks each, add another 80 for brackets, plus labor, taking rear pan off, welding and install took about 7 hours.

Thanks for all the info. My 05 Mountaineer has just springs. Maybe I'll just wait until I can afford a new 3400 with all the goodies. God Bless, Ray
