Another small kitchen update

We really didn't like our leaning table, so we removed it. Here is our new dining area. We know what each other look like, so we're both happy with the improved view. Of course I had to pull the shade to get a halfway decent picture.

We also removed the carpet in the slide and replaced it with vinyl. It's not an exact match to the original, but close enough. We found matching trim to finish off the edges around the new flooring.

Russ,

Nice job! Did you leave the base for the table there and just add a new top? Also would like to see a picture of the new vinyl where it meets the original flooring. Would love to get rid of all my carpet.

Yes, the base had to stay as it's part of the outdoor TV compartment. We added a 10" leaf with L brackets and painted it to match. I still need to route the side and front edges. I'll see if I have a picture of the vinyl overlap, if not I'll take one this weekend for you. Basically we cut it the same as the original carpet, just not as far out of the slide as the carpet went.

We'll be pulling out the bedroom carpet as well, the vinyl is so much easier to keep clean.

Here's the corner by the door. The new vinyl is thicker, a bit padded, and forms right down to the original floor quite nicely. We did buy edging, but haven't added it yet. I don't know that we need it.

Thanks! I'm really happy with it now that we've been using it this way for a few weeks. There's so much more room now, and it's so easy to keep clean.

Looks really good!

I would love to know the name of the flooring product you used and where you purchased it. How difficult was the install? Did you remove the old carpet yourself?

The flooring is off the roll at Menard's, it is not a match for the original. It bothers me, but I'm getting over it. Home Depot will also have it if you don't have Menard's. I'll look to see if we still have the receipt to give you the exact name. We decided to go with the mismatch rather than the original because the one we chose is padded and softer where the original is thin and quite stiff. That would be a problem with the overlap.

This was a DIY project, so we did take out the carpet ourselves. There weren't nearly as many staples holding it down as I though, so crawling around with a pliers after pulling it up wasn't that awful. We did have to lay on the floor and cut carpet out from under the table base so that the vinyl could be squeezed under. We used the carpet laid over the vinyl on the garage floor as a template and cut with a utility knife. Double sided tape holds it in place. We did put matching baseboard around the exposed edges. All in all, we did it in an afternoon with minimal cussing.
