Montana - entry door strut bracket tear-out

The bracket holding the gas strut to the entry door of our 2013 Montana tore out of the door. This was a result of normal closing of the door - no violent wind gusts were involved. On examination (pictures attached) I found the bracket was 'pop riveted' through aluminum framing of perhaps 1/16" thickness over the 2" width of the bracket. The strut was a 20 lbs rated unit - far too heavy a pull for the aluminum it was fastened to. I hope other Montana owners pay attention to this bracket mount. A 10 lbs strut would do the same job, and perhaps avoid the repair I am now facing.
I'd post pictures if I could figure out how to add them to this post.

Had the same thing happen to the door on our 2011 3150RL. I drilled the door and installed stainless steel bolts that go all the way thru the door with locknuts on the backside. Replaced the 20lb strut with a 13lb strut and all has been well since, just over a year now. Mine did not have rivets but small sheet metal screws that pulled out.

Same here. My door bracket was secured by screws, the self drilling kind. I removed all 3 screws, drilled thru the door frame, got some, this is from a really old memory, 3x 3/16x2" screws and bolted the original bracket to the door with the 3 screws. Goobered it with clear silicon sealer.

Been 6 months, and no issues. Same OEM strut.

Just another example of Keystone Engineering/Not.

My dealer installed Rivnuts under warranty to solve the problem after the screws let go. Bolts through the door (with sleeves) is another alternative.

Dealer fixed mine. Not sure how they fixed it, but two years latter, still attached!

Like the others, I finally gave up trying to fix with a "single skin" attachment after it failed again...and again. I through bolted as well...but i installed spacers over the bolts inside the door so that the door couldn't be compressed over time and a bronze plate inside to provide a lot of surface area for the 3 bolts. I used all stainless steel parts, except for the back plate. John
