Is this space usable???

I had a brainstorm last night and am seeking opinions on the doability of this. On the newer units with the available room in the bedroom for the washer/dryer combo units only, I am wondering if anyone has ever pondered putting a stackable pair in that space. Since the newer televisions are the flat screens, is it possible to make a single full length door with the television mounted to it and utilize what I believe is wasted space behind the television set??? I relaize it would require some woodwork with respect to the cabinet fixtures. Thoughts???

Bingo, Mounting a flat screen tv on a door for more storage in the cabinet would be possible. A flat screen could also be installed on the wall next to the window. As for a stacked w/d, there is not enough depth or height for that. There is a lot of room in the tv cabinet, but the front caps slopes back and not much space at the upper area.

Just curious, is this pondering leading to a new Monty?

I had that very thing recommended to me by a dealer in South Carolina. Also they suggested putting one of the units in the closet, right beside the existing unit, so that you could keep the television.

Don,
SHHHHHH!! Don't even let DW know that I am considering this!! Ha Ha!! Okay, time for some forum help. Is there anybody out there in cyber-MOC land that can measure the total height of the stackables (seems like ours is less than six feet) and the height from the bottom of the combo shelf to the top of the tv compartment at it's lowest point. I understand that the TV compartment shelf is in the way, but I am wondering if that entire cabinet could be modified or removed and a custon cabinet installed that would accomplish all of that. Levietta, I did consider the possibility of putting one in the closet as well, but obviously preserving closet space would be desired. It may be a pipe-dream anyway, probably has something to do with too much sun yesterday!!!

Got the stackable measurements off of Splendide's web-site. Washer is 33" high and the dryer is 33" high. Allowing for an inch clearance on the bottom and between units and a couple of inches at the top that gives an installed height of 70". Will it fit?? I guess we could likewise consider removal of the corner combo cabinet completely and installing on the floor, then construct a new cabinet around it. Wonder if Keystone would consider and optional cabinet configuration??? If I can get the measurements and it looks doable, will post in the Hey Keystone topic.

Bingo, the actual installed height of our Ariston stackable is 65-1/2". The depth of space needed is 27-1/2" to the front of the control knobs. The closet width is 25-5/8" and there isn't much room left.

After installation, the knobs are protruding out into the door jam area so the the door barely closes. It is very tight. Ours is installed in the front closet, by the door of the 340 RLQ. I realize it is different from what you are exploring, but wanted to give you actual dimensions of space needed.

There ya go Bingo, someone with the straight skinny. Thanks Stiles, I couldn't check mine as it is in the shop for the warranty stuff and I have no idea how things are going at the moment. Bingo, there is also the issue of plumbing and power to that front closet, you will most likely need to run two dedicated circuits as the tv circuit is also for the dvd/other equip outlet on the top closet shelf and the dresser lamp. There is also the additional pin weight with 200 plus pounds of equipment up there. The W/D closet by the entry door was the reason we chose the 3400/340 layout. Sorry I could not be of more help...Dave

Thanks Stiles, sounds like it was overkill on the 70" I stated.

Dave,
Where I am looking is pre-wired for the combo, which I would assume is a separate power leg. Stiles gave actuals for the 340RLQ which is basically the same for our 3400. My biggest concern is whether there is actually room behind the television with the sloped front of the rigs. I actually think that this could work since if my memory serves me correctly, the top of the swing out television on our 3400 is above eyesight level and again if memory serves me correctly along with Stiles actual measurements, the top of our stackables is below my eyesight level. Anybody else out there that has the front combo cabinet that could measure the avaialble height. Looks like one would only need about 68" based on what Stiles measured and leaving a little wiggle room.

When and if you install, remember to block items going behind the W/D. You will have great pains trying to recover anything. I have a pair of glasses lost in that abyss.

When you vent the dryer a better design would to fabricate some sort of support for the flexible dryer exhaust hose to keep it from sagging and becoming a collection point for lint.

Once you have a stackable installed, it is a beast to service, much more complicated than a W/D in your stick house.

Do those stackables come apart? If not, I don't see how you could physically get it in the spot, even if the spot was large enough.

Yes, they are separate units, the dryer weighs about 80 pounds and goes on top. They have a bracket assembly that holds them together.

Bingo I would make a "duct work or hard pipe" to the dryer exhaust as I hate the flexible plastic pipe. It is a lint collector!
I fight this at least 2 times a year in our business units.

Bingo, If you haven't looked behind the tv yet,it is easy to remove the stop and swing the tv out, then you can see exactly how much room you have. There is a wood block at the back of the tv, just remove the screws and the tv will swing all the way out.

Don,
My rig is at the dealers for repairs, the one we are looking at is there also. I am just wondering if there is a possibility it will fit, does your unit have the combo under the tv, would you mind measuring total height of both cabinets, please........

OK Bingo, here we go

From bedroom floor to ceiling at cabinet face frame 70 1/2" high

From raised floor to ceiling at cabinet face frame 66"

Height of the raised floor for closet and washer cabinet 4 1/2"
The floor is also raised along the wall where the dresser is. The water supply lines are located in that raised area.

TV shelf is 24" deep

The ceiling slopes slightly in the bedroom and continues into the tv cabinet for 9" then slopes at about a 60 degree angle. This the area where you would not have enough depth.

There is 31" from tv cabinet face frame to the dresser. If the cabinet depth was increased and when the bed slide in, it would hit the cabinet. At least for a king size bed, not sure about a queen bed.

Hopde this is what you needed.

That is exactly what was needed, sounds like the only option is the closet, unless there is wasted space behind the cabinet, oh well, back to getting Keystone to make a side aisle with a stackable closet!! Thanks,
