Nuvi mount

I am waiting for delivery of my Nuvi 680. wondering if the friction mount would be any advantage over the windshield mount? The mount I am refering to is the one that looks like it has a weighted beanbag base.

The beanbag mount is what I would consider a traveling mount. Great for rental cars, riding with a friend, etc.
I have had my Nuvi for a couple years, mostly the suction mount was mounted on a piece of plexi sitting in my ashtray.
With the arrival of my new truck last spring (ashtray moved), I decided to finally try the windshield disc. I mounted it up above my mirror, and the plastic disk separated from the adhesive holding it to the windshield in the heat of the summer.
After several attempts to get it to hold, I decided to quit trying to beat what was holding. The adhesive for the disk held firm the whole time, so I eliminated the plastic disc and stuck the suction mount directly to the adhesive.
Keep in mind, I would never have done this if I wasn't sure of the location, but since I've done it this way, it has not even thought about moving in extreme heat and so far into 15 degree temps this winter.
That mount will not be removed until the truck is sold, and even then the adhesive for the disc will probably still be there.
I got an extra mount for the beanbag and power cord.
That way I can just remove it from the holder and not mess with the wiring.

I think that plastic disc is for the dashboard rather than the windshield. My suction cup will hold on the windshield fine unless I try to adjust it. I added the plastic disc to my car dashboard (Prius) and leave the DC cord plugged in and routed along the bottom of the instrument panel (actually hidden behind it) held in place with a couple of "binder clips". I remove the suction cup mount from the disc for security reasons, but leave the cord easily accessible. I bought another connection setup from an e-bay store for use in our other vehicles (F-250 TV, Van, Kia) or if traveling with someone else. Like Brad, I love my Nuvi !!

I don't have the Nuvi but I do use a suction cup windshield mount. Stays put well and is totally portable for any vehicle. I recently rented a car to drive around San Francisco in and mounted it on the windshield. I have a Magellan.

I have used the beanbag mount for years on my 60C. It makes it very easy to hide under the seat without the tell tale suction cup marks on the window. I am going to order the adapter arm for my Nuvi 680 when it comes. If you do order it, the Nuvi's do not all take the same mount. Look up the exact number under your model on garmin.com.

I bought the 'beanbag mount' for my Nuvi. Have never tried the suction cup mount. Happy with the bean bag.

We have the Garmin Nuvi 660 and the beanbag mount. The word beanbag does not due it justice. It really holds well on our dash and no marks or scarring occurs. It's easy to remove and place securely from view.
Good luck with your 680.
(Bean Bag model #010-10908-00) for anyone interested. Dennis

Hello. The friction mount works just fine. I live in Minnesota and by law you can not have a windshield mount on your winshield. That law also applies to California residents.

I use the windshield mount to the left of the rear view mirror. I ran a permanent charge line into the base so I don't have to mess with that anymore - just snap the Nuvi into the base. I ended up making the window mount and charger more or less permanent and bought a spare set for rental cars. (sometimes I stick the Nuvi and suction cup to the screen on the DWs built in navigation system in her car just to puff her up). http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...36&uid=6528899

It works great for me - the only downside is I have to tilt my head up or turn my progressive glasses upside down to see the screen clearly .

It looks like Brad and I do almost the exact same thing...my mount tucks it right in just above the mirror. Here in MN, windshield mounts are illegal, so this way from the outside it can't be seen as it's behind the tinted area.
It isn't any more of a distraction that looking in the rear view mirror.

Have you tried the Proclip Mounting systems. It sounds like a good way to mount a GPS, cell phone etc.

I mount my Nuvi with the suction cup right to the rear veiw mirror, right side. Still can us mirror when not towing. Can mount it to windshield here in CA.

I have a good friend who is a police officer in the Chicago area. He stated that the GPS is one of the most common reasons for car breakins today. All they see is the mount and they break in. That's the nice thing about the Nuvi friction mount - you just slide it under the seat when not in use. No tell tale circles on the windshield.

My Garmin instructions specifically mentioned that you could NOT mount it to the window. I use the friction mount.

I would not like to have anything other than the beanbag (friction?) mount. I have never used the suction cup thing. Easy to move about and view from either front seat. Easy to remove from outside view.

In California we can't have anything mounted on the windshield or anything on top of the dash. The newer GMC's have two small cut out's on front of the dash,I stuck the disc inside one of the cut outs and put the mount in there, works great and the disc isn't that noticeable and the DW can swivel it and use.
