Depends on what roads you like, but looks like I87 -> I90w -> I88 west to I81s to Rte 61 in PA and drop south to Reading?! Not a bad run at all.

That is about the best way to go, no tolls I90 from exit 24 to 25A is free, I88 and I81 are rough in spots but what roads aren't. We went to the NE rally in may near Kutztown, we got off81 and went down I476 to Allentown and that was under construction 50 plus miles as I recall. We will be going down to Lancaster in Oct and probably go that way.

Lived in Reading for 50 years and been to Lake George many times.

Quickest route would be....

I-88 to I-81 at Binghamton
I-81 to I-476, northeast extension of PA Turnpike (toll road)
I-476 to Lehigh Valley exit
Rte 22 west to I-78 west

I-78 west to Rte 100 south
100 south to 222 south to Reading
or
I-78 west to Rte 61 south to Reading. A bit longer but faster.

Mornings and afternoon traffic on 222 can be a real pain in the butt especially south of Kutztown. 222 has no passing from Kutztown to just north of Reading. There are only 3 traffic lights in that stretch but I have seen traffic backed up nearly a mile at each light. Route 61 is mostly 4 lane from I-78 to Reading.

The toll on the PA turnpike is around $5.00

Where in Reading will you be going?
I can probably get you there without a problem.
