Time to winterize is coming

Having always kept the rig in a warmer climate, this year it is going to remain in the North Georgia Mountains over the winter. How much RV antifreeze do you typically use.

I blow ours out first,though you do not have to do that, It takes a little over a gallon to refill the lines and a little more to get pink at all the faucets. remember the outside shower or washing machine hook up's. Then I put about 8-10 ounces in each trap.Also if you can blow out the black tank flush hookup

Including washer, dishwasher, outside shower and black tank flush (hooked to shower to allow pink stuff in it as well), we are usually right around three gallons. If you have water in fresh water tank, remember to drain it (separate low point drain), and drain water heater also.

Why is there not a need to address the Black Tank flush line in some manner? Any water left in the line (from the anti-siphon valve to the outside connection) can definitely cause problems that will not be apparent until next year? Wondering?

We certainly address the black tank flush as well. In our case we put air in to that line 1st then we put air in to the line that feeds to our fresh water tank from the city hookup just to be sure all water is out. Then drain the fresh water tank.

From there it is flushed with pink stuff as Bingo stated, just shy of 3 gallons and the rest is poured straight in to each of the drains.

In addition to all the input don't forget to flush your toilet in order to get pink stuff in those
water lines, plus leave some pink stuff in the toilet bowl so that your gaskets don't dry out. Don't skimp on the antifreeze, because it is cheap compared to the cost to replace burst water lines.

With chagrin all over my face ... I'll have to say I've never thought of blowing out the black water flush. I guess it doesn't matter as on two different Montanas and about 10 winters in Kansas, I've never had anything bust. The PEX tubing can take alot, it's the plastic fittings, faucets, and PTraps that don't fare so well. Don't forget to isolate the hot water heater and drain it. In the newer rigs, the hot water heater bypass is a given ... no so much in older units and some SOB's.

Black flush is self draining! Never a problem in 12 years I have been on this forum since 2002 never ever herd of anyone with an issue.note when you discontent hose water runs out beyond the one way valvue the line drains into the tank.If makes you feel warm and fuzzy what the heck do it

I also pour some RV antifreeze down the washer drain even though I don't use it.

And when you run the shower faucets to get the anti freeze in it, be sure to pull the stopper and let the anti freeze run through the shower head.

I forgot and the water froze and pushed the shower head off the hose.
