Montana 2955RL Converter accessory
Our new (05)2955RL has a 55 amp converter (IOTA DLS-55). This converter is capable of running as a 3-stage charger (Bulk, absorption, float). From the factory, it is configured to run
as a single stage (low current) charge rate.
This converter has a small connector at the top (looks like a telephone jack). With the jack empty, the converter runs in the low current mode. With a jumper (supplied by IOTA but was not with my unit) the converter goes into a bulk rate charger (high current).
The surprise! There is a small module (about 2 inches square) that plugs into this top jack and turns the converter into the 3-stage unit as above. This module is available (cost about $30) and takes about 10 seconds to install once you have access to the converter. I have installed my module and it appears to work as advertised.
This module will also work with other IOTA converters.
The module is called IQ-4 and is available on line at several locations. Check IOTA WEB site for information then go hunting for your best buy.

THe Hayes, Not knowing anything about converters except their basic function in my trailer, I was wondering why you need to change the factory settings. Could you please enlighten me . I may need the module, although my Montana, same model as yours, is a 2001 and may not have the same converter. I am concerned about the converter over charging my battery.
Also, could you please tell me where the fresh water tank is located in the 5529. I think mine is in the rear but not certain as I have one low point drain in the rear left, near the LR slide, and two others behind the wheels on the right looking from the rear of the trailer.
Thanks,

I have the same question. Why to I need to alter the converter? Please inform me about the advantage you have gained by making your change. Mine is not an IOTA but rather a Parallax 7300. Even so, I would like to understand what you did if for nothing more than to expand my knowledge base.

I have also installed the IQ-4 module in my IOTA. The two main advantages are 1) faster recharge which is handy when boondocking and you are using a generator occasionally. The module applies all the converters output to recharging instead of trickle charging which can take a long time to recharge 2) when the battery is fully charged it has a special mode that reduces outgassing and boiling to minimize the water loss. The second part is really useful when you leave the rig plugged into shore power for extended periods of time. Our rig was connected to power all year and there is no noticable fluid loss from the battey. On other rigs I wouls have had to top up the battey water. The converter can be purchased with the module integrated and I can's think of a reason why you would want one without except for cost.

Really had hope for a few minutes, but on checking just now I, too, have the Parallax. Wondering if there is anything short of complete replacement for those of us with the Parallax???

Thanks to Mike and Donna for the great explaination on the IQ-4.
I have installed (4) T125 in series / parallel combination and that
is why I went the 3-stage charger mode with the IQ-4. You can't go
wrong with installing this module into any IOTA Converter that will
accept this change (look at your paper work or check for the little
telephone style jack on the top). A 55 amp 3-stage charger is fairly expensive ~$200. This is an inexpensive way to get the most from your RV batteries.
Keep the rubber parts down!

Yes on the 2955 the tank is in the rear. The fill pipe goes straight down to it.

I went through all the documentation that came with my 2005 2955RL and it makes no mention of which converter it has in it. I looked for the converter and couldn't find it either. I know it's there somewhere. But where?
Thanks,

I did the mod yesterday. Took all of 5 minutes. On my 3255RL, the convertor is located behind the breaker panel. I removed the eight screws that hold in the two breaker panels. This allowed me to slide out the two panels, and access the convertor located behind. The socket for the IQ-4 is located on the top of the IOTA DLS-55 convertor. I mounted the IQ-4 next to the convertor, and plugged it in.

I know where the distribution panel is in our 3400, but where is the DLS unit?

Should be right behind it, inside the wall. The 12 volt output of the convertor ties directly into the 12 volt break panel.

Does the IQ-4 plug into the DLS then? I didn't see a plug spot on the panel.

Yes. There is a phone jack socket on the top of the Iota DLS. Plugs right in!

OK Thanks for the information. I'll see about it when our rig comes back from warranty repairs.

At www.parallaxpower.com Parallax lists an option for "two-step" charging that prevents overcharging during long term storage. Don't know if it is available as an add-on, though.

Thanks, Coro, I was beginning to think my query was completely overlooked. I will certainly check out the web site in the link you posted above. Even if I don't find a solution, the very fact that you responded is encouraging and I thank you.

Where exactly can you purchase the IQ-4 module. I can't seem to locate a place and also what about cost?
