Slam Latch Gas Spring Mounting Brackets

I'm not sure what type of material is used for the inner surface of the slam latch doors but it is definitely not metal. Due to the amount of stress created when opening and closing these doors, the screws holding the brackets that attach to the door have worked loose and actually cannot be screwed back in.
The gas spring itself seems to be working although I'm not sure how to retract it enough to return it to its closed position even if I could find a way to tighten the screws!
The gas spring is made by Volumeline and is at 60 psi.
I have a 2012 Montana 3100RL.
Thanks for any and all help.

The door struts have been a problem for a long time. I think newer models had glue in addition to the screws holding the plate to the door. A quick Search using keywords "door strut screws" returned a number of posts with the problem and solutions. Try looking at:

I am sure varying the keywords would find even more matches.
