Overnight battery drain

Hello,
I have an issue with the battery in our trailer when I am hooked up to 110 overnight and leave the trailer hooked up to the TV. If I forget to unhook the pigtail by the end of the next days travels, I have a dead battery. Should you have to unhook the TV from the trailer when stopping overnight?
Thanks,
LCarter

That should not happen. First you need to check condition of battery then the converter/ charger. No way if the battery is in good condition and the charger is working connected to AC you should not have a dead battery

I always unhook the TV when parked overnight, just in case for this reason. Something being used in the trailer over night just might help drain the battery especially if you aren't sure of the condition of the charging system.

The vehicle battery should be isolated when connected to shore power, but all these connections are "smoke and mirrors" to me, so I only leave the plug connected to the TV when I'm driving and towing. If not, I'll disconnect it. If there is a problem, then at least the TV will be safe.

I might check that something in the TV isn't draining the battery while connected. Just a thought, if the TV battery is not being completely charged, perhaps the RV battery is draining to charge it while connected overnight. Good luck... Walt

Is it possible your Rig Batt is in poor shape, yet when connected to the TV the converter sees good voltage and only puts out a trickle charge? This could be true if the TV Batt/s are new or in excellent condition. You need to do some voltage checks.

Thanks for the information. Last spring, I upgraded the trailer battery to an AGM battery. I know it is OK. I have had all connections from TV to plug checked for shorts. Also, the pigtail to the trailer has been cleared. To me that only leaves something in the trailer. If I keep the TV unplugged no problem with the trailer battery.

Last year we too would have our batteries drained, thought it was the battery and had it replaced with 2 new batteries. Worked okay for a few days then we had the same problem, it was our converter.

Mainer,
Thanks for information, I am leaning in that direction as well. I suppose I need someone to check that out as well.

I unplug from my TV when staying overnight at a Walmart and do a walk around in the morning and reconnect it.
