fireplace
Before I wreck something, could someone tell me the correct way to remove the fireplace? It shuts the blower and heat down after only a minute of operation. I see there have been some issues posted regarding the Dimplex and would welcome the advice of you experienced folks

We had a 2010 3605rl and it did the same thing. I learned here on the forum that there was a recall on the fireplace and contacted dimplex. They sent the parts to me and gave me the name and number of a local independent repairman to have the work done at my home. After parts arrived, the repairman came and installed the bad blower with the new one. It was 2-3 years ago that this was done and I don't know if it includes your unit and year. Call dimplex and ask. They were very helpful to us. Good luck.

Fireplace is held in the cabinet by a few screws, depending on the year, may have caps over them. Remove the screws, and unit pulls out easily. Be careful with the glass facing. In our case, good cleaning/vacuuming was all that was required. Was suprized at the amount of dirt/dust accumulation.

If you don't find a lot of stuff, like dust balls, etc...take a close look at the right end of the heating unit, which is nichrome wire wound in two groups. Inside that end you will see a small resettable switch that cuts out the heater and fan due to overheating situations. Also check both connections on that end. One of my connections showed heat damage as did the resettable. Actually mine sort of looked like a too done French fry. Yours may just look tarnished, overheated, etc. when that resettable gets weak, the fireplace gets erratic, then stops period. The heater and fan are one assembly so you have to spend the $100 plus price for a new unit. My guess is that yours may be heading south, but you can hope for an accumulation of crap. John

By the way, the top comes off for access to the fan area...bottom comes off for access to the bi-metallic thermostat switch, etc. The fan/heater are only controlled by 120vac through this bi-metallic period. No electronics involved for this function! John
