Frozen Slides
Tried to pull in the Main slides and the kitchen slide top gets stuck such that the bottom tries to continue in causing a way lopsided wall. We put the slide back out (it had only come in 3-4 inches) and I can see 2" think ice /snow on top.
We fired up the furnace and I will try again tomorrow.
Any advice on removing the ice slabs?

Hair dryer? I wouldn't use a heat gun because of the chance of damaging seals.

I think you have done right by just cranking up the interior heat and waiting awhile.

The last time we were in a situation like yours, I got the ladder out and physically removed the ice and snow with a broom. I think I remember waiting until the afternoon of the day prior to us leaving, to take advantage of more warmth, to actually remove the ice.

Thanks for all the advice. A full day of interior heat did nothing to loosen or soften the ice on the slides.
Maybe the insulation claims are true?
I bought an outside heating pad intended for walk ways. I will be trying that next week when the temps get back into the 30s in the day.
Thank goodness we have a few weeks before we try to pull out for Florida.

Hair dryer would be my choice.

When we had a leak in the one slide window a couple years ago, I went to the hardware store and purchased an electric heater with a good fan that could be tilted up or down. I modified it so it would blow down instead of up, so I could dry the carpet and floor. Something like that might be a good option too. A better option would have been getting out a bit sooner, before the snow hit or at least removing the snow daily so it didn't build up, but I guess this is part of the learning curve when living in these things.

How cold is it and if not way down there how about running hot water on it to get it off and then use you leaf blower to get the excess water off before bringing in the slides?

UPDATE. Today my warming pad arrived. I was all set to plug it in and lay on the slides and it requires a special power "pack". Simply a glorified plug adapter but unfortunately I don't have one! Orders it up and should be here next week. In the mean time I brushed off most of the snow and some chunks of ice. Then some big slabs stared getting loose. A few hours later after a light beating with a rubber scraper and all the ice is off!
I will still provide an update on the warming pads when I get it all hooks up next week. I think they will be great insurance if we forget to close the slides and have any more sleet or frozen rain.

When fulltime our fall schedule was spending part of December in Illinois and then heading to Florida for the winter months. We encountered early snowfall and ice storm issues so we ended up camping in Tennessee by the end of November and just driving the truck back north for a short holiday stay in early December. We still had some cold temps in Tennessee but generally had better luck with snow and ice storms.
