Dave, I too, was noticing the heat in this cabinet and I have bought a 120 VAC fan to install in the wall facing the desk. I also bought a small rocker switch to install with it. Have not done this yet as I need to find agrill cover to go on the outside. I bought the fan at Radio Shack. It is a 2100 rpm, 65 cfm airflow and 220 mA. About 4 inch square. and a lighted rocker switch #275-692. Will install and plug into the 110 VAC outlet in the cabinet.

Anyone have an idea on the outside cover (like a speaker screen)??????

It has to be weather proof somehow, Phil. There has got to be something out there that would protect against rain, etc, but still prevent hornets and the colder weather from getting in - maybe a small sliding door (on the inside wall)???

Dryer vent maybe???? Only opens with positive air pressure, just trying to help.

That might work, Bingo, but it has to be slim enough to slide through that rubber seal on the side.

Dave, My thought was to just vent it inside the coach on the upper wall of the stereo cab that faces the desk. Did not want to mess with exterior walls of coach. I know this will add some heat in the coach, but it is already there anyway......

Any thoughts on this??????

Phil

I would hesitate to add too much more heat inside the coach for the A/C to try to take care of on hot summer days. I would be more inclined to try to vent that heat outside somehow. But that is strictly MY thoughts on that, and my wife has mentioned more than once that my way of thinking is not normal...

Hmmm - too much heat to throw away in the winter, yet too much to contain in the summer . Might have to vent both ways.

My effort into the issue is limited to me getting out of the recliner to open the cabinet door a crack. Keystone did move the sound system out of that cabinet and into it's own spot below the cabinet on our model, so the impact of the heat is not so bad.

Actually Dave, outside is what I was referring to, got this mental image of you with that 4" hole saw and grimacing, grimacing, grimacing. The dryer vents for the Splendides are relatively thin so I don't know if they would span outside wall and cabinet interior???and don't look bad at all, seems like Brad had a pic on another post if I remember correctly. Tying into the stove vent sounds possible also.

Got it! If you pull out the fireplace, (or cabinet) below the TV, you will see a huge void between the exterior wall and back wall of the cabinet. The void extends all the way up to the ceiling of the slide. You could run a flex duct straight down that wall and vent to the exterior through the floor (2" vent probably fine) then you wouldn't have to worry about the looks or drilling through the Monty. You could even put a nice grille for the duct on the back wall of the cabinet so the fex duct didn't show. You would have to power the air movement, but that could all be done down behind the fireplace.

I thought about the bottom vent too, Brad. But what to do about the vent hole to the outside underneath there. Don't want an entry point for any kind of critters/insects. Can't cover it from the outside with a permanent grill or anything like that. It has to drag across that plastic/nylon slide and then over the carpet when closing.

Maybe something temporary that you have have to put on your checklist so you wouldn't forget and hear an awful crushing/cracking sound when that slide comes in...

Dave, I believe the outside 1-ft our so doesn't retract over the top of anything. If you used that void along the outside wall, it would actually dump down into that space that remains open to ground even with the slides in.

It would have to be a small grate or wire mesh discharge to keep the criiters

I think your right, Brad - just have to worry about closing it off while going down the road. Or is that protected there? I haven't gone outside to check...

There is probably splash back from the rear tires, but limited as it is behind the fender. Probably a directional type would eliminate the problem and you wouldn't have to do anything.

Been thinking about it some more. If you had a ventilation grille at the floor in that void space, you wouldn't even have to duct it. A computer fan mounted to a hole in the back wall of the cabinet up near the equipment would provide mechanical ventilation down the void with relief out the bottom. Sounds like HVAC expertise is in order - OZZ!

Brad just went out and looked. Don't know if there is any space upon retraction on my 3400. Looks like the square tubular metal brace on the edge of the slide runs right up to the rubber stop, closing off any space. I did not try to close that slide, though, to see what happens.
