omaha to WInchester, VA

We will be leaving Thursday for Winchester, VA. Any suggestions on routes to avoid or go on, also good overnight places.
Looks like the way is to go is I-80 to PA then to I-70 to Maryland and then to Winchester.

WOW, there ain't no easy way.
Your route ain't bad but you will be running a lot of toll roads. I-80 thru Indiana and Ohio is all toll road. Once in Penna I would suggest I-76, The PA Turnpike(toll road), to I-70. I-70 to I-81 and south to Winchester.

OR

You could head south to KC on I-29, Than I-70 to St Louis. Pick up I-64 to I-81 and north to Winchester.

BTW-The Flying J on I-81, just north of Winchester, has the lowest diesel price in the state whereas Maryland and Penna are higher. I use this Flying J everytime I travel 81.

Yup, I agree that avoiding I-80 is a good thing. I would agree with "Glenn/Lorraine's" alternate route, which is the same as "awaywego" to venture down to Kansas City on I-29. Then head East from there on I-70, then pick up I-64 in St. Louis, MO. This also avoids I-68 in PA and WV because the hills are VERY tough on a rig because of its very steep and very long uphills and downhills.

Finally use I-81 to head back north to Winchester, VA as described.

Glenn, That flying J you mentioned is about 3 m iles from our son. We always fuel there--didn't realize they were the cheapest.

Paul, Almost every spring/summer we find ourselves on 81 through VA. Many years we come into VA at Bristol. This year we came up I-95 and shot over to 81 at Fredricksburg, VA. Regardless of how we get there we always stop at the Winchester FJ and everytime fuel was cheaper than all the other VA truck stops along the way. Once you get into WV, MD, PA the prices start to rise. Once we cross into NY they really go nuts. BUT in NY you can usually find an Indian Reservation where fuel can be as much as .25 cents cheaper per gallon.
