Rubber roof failure

Our rubber roof came loose at the front and tore 12 ft. before someone flagged us down. It bubbled up once before and was repaired.
Is anyone else having problems with their roofs? It's a 2002 3255RL. We talked to Montana folks and they said they'll fix it, but what a mess when you're far from home.

Bill and Bev,
Sorry to hear of your problem. There have been a few roof failures of this type but it is pretty rare. I remember seeing some discussions on this on the Forum before. You might try doing a search. Good luck and welcome to the MOC.

Hey Bill & Bev, We have the same problem only ours has not blown all the way up. It is still connected but billows up when traveling. Just returned from a trip to AR and a motorist stopped us and told us about it. Drove slowly home. Checked with Keystone and they said "too bad". Not exactly in those words. We have an '02 3575RL and I just love it and don't want to change trailers. We have contacted Keystone numerous times and they just tell us the roof has only a 1 year warranty. At a cost of almost $5,000 I think they should do something about it. We have owned 3 5ers and have never had this trouble before. This is out first Montana and will probably be the last. We also had 2 aluminum wheels crack and they told us the same thing. They would do nothing about it. Needless to say, we don't think much of Keystone and will not own another of their products.

dixiencoy,
When you say you've contacted "Keystone" do you mean the dealer? If you're contacting Keystone Customer Service then they should certainly be responding differently than what you indicate. We've had reports of dealers saying that things aren't covered and that Keystone won't cover costs but when checked it seems that the dealer just made up stories.

It is true that the roof is only covered for a year through Keystone but I believe it is up to 12 years by the manufacturer. The coming loose issue has been reported several times here on MOC. You might do a search and see what you come up with.

The rims are a "known" issue. But not all rims. Only a certain design. It could be that your rims are not of the "known" variety.

Whatever the reason or cause..... please keep us updated on what transpires.

We had the same roof problem on our 2002 3295, and luckily it was during the first year so there was no warranty issue. I, too, think that Keystone "should" cover at least part of the cost of dixiencoy's roof even though it is out of warranty. Those bigger potential problems are a reason why we chose to purchase the extra 6 year extended warranty, and just this past week we did have occasion to use the extended warranty to replace the cooling unit of our refrig.

Regarding the wheel issue. We, too, have had two failed rims, and upon contacting Keystone, customer service did tell us that we were beyond warranty (out by over two years actually), but they also gave me the telephone number of the supplier of the wheels. Upon contact with the supplier, and reading them the numbers from the defective wheel they (Tredit Tire and Rim) sent me replacements as well as asking me to send them any costs we had incurred because of the failures. We called on a Thursday the last time and received the new wheel the following Tueday UPS along with a UPS "pick up" order for the defective wheel. Try Keystone again and ask for the wheel supplier information.
