Kipor Generator

For the members that have one of these geenrators can you give the good and the bad reviews of these generators. From what I can tell the specs for the 2000 is very similar to the Honda 2000, butI wanting some information on reliabiliy. I had a Honda generator in the past and liked it a lot, just looking at price now. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

We have the Kipor 3500.Had it for 28 Months. Don't use it all that often but do run it once a month for about 1/2 hour. have not had any problems with it. They are very comparable with the Honda and we are told that 80/85% of the parts are interchangeable. The Chinese copied the Japanese...poetic justice///////

You can buy one from Costco.com that looks just like it with the Cummins/Onan name on it. Comes with a 2 year warranty.

We have had our Kipor 3500 since march of 2006. Was used at the big RV Rally at Daytona for 6 evenings there. We have also used it for a few nights boon docking and for a couple days when Ikes leftovers hit our area pretty hard. Kids have used it at the Nascar races too. I would have to say it's been very good to have and the cost verses the Honda was justified then. However, I'm under the impression that the Hondas are coming down in price. If there would only be a couple hundred dollars difference, I would probably buy the Honda since they are easier to get fixed if something went wrong with it. So far, no problems with the Kipor!

I have the Kipor 3000, Works fine but you need to run it every once in while. When I let it set for an extended period it is hard to start. If I was getting a 2000 I would go with the Honda or the Yamaha as there are some mail order houses that have very competitive prices. Another issue is service, the Honda has many service outlets around the country where as the Kipor is limited, I am lucky in that we have a friend who services the Kipors.

Service can be a issue. MOST certified Honda deales are NOT permitted to work on other brands of Generators. Any independent dealer will service them and since they are so much like a Honda they have no problems doing so. The 3500 (aka3000) runs the A/C with no problem.

Thanks guys for the input. I have been pondering the 3000 for a while.
I personally want to 3000 because of the electric start option.

Thanks

I never looked at the Cummins/Oran before not a bad looking unit but I dont see if they can be linked together for more Watts.

Our Kipor 3000 has paid for itself a couple times over. Needed it in emergency situations 4 times now. Yes, as stated above, it will run your main AC. Not much else though. And you do need to run it once a month and they recommend with a 1/2 load...

The main A/C draws about 12 Amps so there is 18 left over for other stuff. Run the Hot water and fridge on propane and you will be ok.. Here is a little tip on the Kipor...When you turn it off....turn off the gas feed valve and let it run out of fuel.... It will run for a few minutes then shut down.. For some reason if you leave fuel in the carb it will be hard to start the next time you try to start it..or may not start at all.Ours will start after a few cranks on the electric start or on the first or second pull by hand.. Been there..done that...

Rich, Try Stabil. After sitting for many months I've had everything crank right up. Boats, Cars, Trucks, Generators, Lawn Mowers, they all started.

stabil works, in generators, cars, any gas engine in storage. I have stored my generator for up to a year and it cranked on 1st try, used stabil. Really recommend it. My generator came with a bottle and information on it's use.

It has ben raining so I have not fired it up yet but will before we leave for the Florida trip.I use stabil in the garden tractor and snow blowers but never tried it in the Kipor.I did not think that not starting was due to "old fuel" but to flooding of the carb//

I would not put much credence to that claim. In the motorcycle world, the same claims are made by the people that sell the Chinese rip-offs of Honda bikes. None of it is true. The bike mechanics that I know, say that people come to them all the time to get juniors motorcycle fixed, and when they get the bad news that no parts are available, they chime in with the "But the guy I bought it from said that Honda parts will fit it!" Just throw the motorcycle out and buy another disposable one that will work for maybe 2 or 3 months and be in the same prediciment soon, or lay out the cash for a name brand bike that can be repaired.

I'm not saying that this is definitely the case for the Kipor generator, but I would be skeptical until proven otherwise.
From the info posted by people that actually have them, they do seem to hold together fine. Do they have a parts and service org. in the U.S.?
