Need second air recommendations ......

Picked up my new 2955RL and will be adding a second air conditioner due to using it mostly in the South with 90+ temps.
With all the choices like low profile, heatpump, etc. what would be a good choice. It seems like all makes and models in the 13500 output range are fairly close in price.
Thanks in advance.

My bedroom AC does not tie into the main thermostat. If I had it to do again I would like to see them both off that device. Not sure if it can be done. I think SOB do that.
Good luck.

We recently had a Carrier V low profile installed. We are pleased with the change. We have been 100 degree temps for 3 months now and it sure makes a difference. It is a little noisy for sleeping but we seem to be adjusting. We mainly just run the fan at night so it is like white noise...

Tom,

If you have the 2008, I believe Keystone started taking advantage of the dual air conditioning concept that shares the thermostat and ducting. If you have any kind of rough in (wires and ducts) that promotes that arrangement, I would stick with Dometic so the thermostat will recognize it.

We have a Duo-Therm Lo Profile 13.5K on the front of our 3400. Rarely need the front running at the same time as the back. As it is non-ducted, it does tend to be noisier. However, for what we need it for - a backup to the main 15K A/C - it is great.

We can cool the entire 3400 with the front A/C only if we have to by simply by closing the A/C vents toward the front closet and aim the rear facing vents out the through the bedroom door (open). Keep the ceiling fan running in reverse (low speed) at all times. Really not necessary to have the front A/C ducted.

90° with heat index @ 96° and we were quite comfortable with just the main A/C going. We have had 115° previously with humidity. A/C did ice up moderately, but held up. That is where you are VERY happy you have that 2nd front A/C for emergency backup. In that particular situation, we would have had to check into a local hotel (w/ A/C) if our A/C would have failed and it would have been our only one.

*On Edit~ We also have dual pane windows and I believe that will make a minor difference. While they are not "residential" dual panes, we seem to not need 2 A/Cs running in the same conditions that many others seem not to have a choice in the matter. And I don't like being hot...

I added a 13.5 Dometic with the heat strip. We are in southern MS...and need both this time of year.

Tom, good luck and enjoy your new 2955. While you may have determined you want a 2nd AC, you may want to consider using your 2955 with the one AC first and then determine whether a 2nd AC is necessary.

The floor plan of the 2955 compared to the 3400 is smaller and more open than a 3400 w/4 slides compared to 2/slides 2955 model. Those MOC owners that own 2955's should and will answer up to your inquiry. I'm not sure if I as a 3400model owner are helping with what I have for a 2nd unit. However, we do have the Carrier V Low-profile 13.5 unit. Both units turn our 3400 into a meat locker! We reside in Florida and partly in Western NC.

Consider ordering a 2nd AC online. I was able to purchase and have shipped to my Montana dealer a 2nd AC unit free and no sales tax with the total purchase price very low.

Good Luck and be Safe! Dennis

That's right... Thanks, Dennis. I forgot we were talking about a 2955. Much less space to cool than a 3400. Good advice. Tom, do you have dual pane windows?

I would vote for the Dometic Penquin (low profile), 13.5. My 2955 was pre-wired for the 2nd a/c.

We found the bedroom to hot at night and we are used to an air conditioner on in the bedroom at night.Last year on holidays we traveled on a day it was over 90 and it semed for ever to cool down the unit so we decided to get the extra a/c.

Thanks for the replies. My 2955 does not have dual pane windows, but is wired for a second ac in the bedroom.
I think I will go with a standard Duo Therm Brisk. I can get it installed at Camping World for about $750.00. My dealer is closer, but quoted me a price of $900.00.

David,

Nope. I guess the rear is a 15K, but the front is only 13.5 (Model 57915.541).

We have the 2955 and are going to put in 2nd a/c. We were just camping in 100 degrees here in texas and really couldn't keep the monty cool enough.

We have been told by several dealerships (Salesman) that one A/C will cool a 5th wheel. We have owned 4 5th wheels and none could be cooled by one A/C. Plus just having a second A/C will save you a lot of problems if one goes out. GBY....

I JUST INSTALLED THE LOW PROFILE CARRIER V 13,500 BTU. BOUGHT IT ON LINE FOR ALOT LESS THAN DEALER PRICING. IT WAS REAL EZ INSTALL.

I'll only suggest the LO-PROFILE unit. No use adding anymore inches to your overall clearance. I have a Lo-Profile A/C up front and the highest point on my rig is the MaxxAir over the bathroom vent.

Tom, good luck and one point made here by one of the responders was excellent, in that being on the road and stopping takes awhile to cool with only (1) AC. Comfort is important. Dennis
