Little help with a slide problem, Please!!

I have a 2007 3400 and the last few times I have put the slides out about half way through the third slide coming out it stops. I wait about 15 seconds and press the switch and it comes on out. Then about halfway out on the forth slide and it does the same.Wait 15 seconds and press the button and it comes on out. I know that I an tripping something but question is what, and where is what I am tripping? It is getting weaker because when it started it would trip once putting all four slides out now it trips twice.

You are tripping the resetable relay located in the battery area close to the slide motor. It is silver in color and there are probably two of them. Follow the positive wire from the pump control down to the relay. The more they trip the weaker the get.

Bottom line is replace the breaker with a 50 or larger Amp one, or parallel two 40 Amp breakers.

I agree with the above that you need to replace the auto reset circuit breaker as many of us have done. I originally replaced my 50 amp with a new 50 amp. Worked fine for a year, then started failing again. So, based on what others had done, I replaced my 50 amp with two 40 amp wired in parallel, like this;



I used two short buss bars (covered with heat shrink tubing) from Lowe's. Others used short jumpers made from wire and terminals, or from small copper plumbing pipe straps. Doesn't matter as long as it can carry the current.

Others replaced theirs with a single 80 amp. But those are not as readily available as the 40 and 50 amp. Can be ordered via the web, but the 40 and 50 amp can be bought at any RV parts store and at many auto parts stores.

Here is what one looks like when it goes bad. Pretty cheaply made.

Please if you going to overload the wiring in your trailer by going to 80 amps on a 50 amp circuit put one of theses 100 amp fuses at your battery.

A while back someone posted here on MOC about the wires at the battery disconnect switch shorting and causing a lot of damage. That could have burned the trailers to the ground.

May vary per unit but the slide pump wiring on mine does not go thru the battery disconnect switch. Goes straight from battery to the auto reset breaker and from there to the slide pump motor solenoid. And as I mentioned before, that wiring on mine is rated for the higher current. I would guess his '07 3400RL is similar to my '07 3075RL.

Good information. I had the relay go out and was fine after I replaced the relay.

Reade the next to the last sentence in the instructions.

You’re going to tell me Keystone put larger wire in the slide system than was needed for their original 50 amp breaker.

Actually, Phil, on my rig they apparently did. When I had the same problem, Keystone paid to replace the breaker with an 80amp under warranty.

My wire from the auto reset circuit breaker to the pump is #4 ga rated for 85 amps, less than 2' long total, and unbundled. Well within the rating for the twin 40 amp breakers or a single 80 amp breaker.

Ours came with #6 AWG rated at 55 Amp. If you read the instructions you find the problem is not the breaker or the wire sizes. Our trailer came with a 50 amp breaker and it is still the original breaker. We have never tripped the breaker on our slides. At the same time we have maintained the battery in accordance with the battery manufacturer’s instructions. As the instructions indicate the problem is low voltage this can be caused by many things but trying to operate anything with a battery that is low on charge normally results in some kind of problem in the case of the slides it’s the breaker tripping that is the result of low battery voltage. So what is wrong with correcting the low voltage problem instead of just increasing the sizes of the breaker?

I still recommend putting a 100 amp fuse at one of the battery terminals. Then in the event of a short to ground between the battery and the first protection device you at least have the fuse at the battery. The reference I made to the post about the battery disconnect had nothing to do with the slides it had to do with a short to the frame in the area of the battery disconnect switch. If the OP of the thread had the fuse at the battery there wouldn’t have been any major damage to the trailer.

BB_TX from the AWG table your #4 is rated at 70 Amp.

DQDick because Keystone paid for the breaker doesn’t mean the wiring is correct.

Mine are two 30 amp breakers and a new battery. Breaker(s) tripped one time, then all worked fine for a while, then the time between tripping became shorter and shorter. Replace the breakers, the battery still showed good (less than a year old), breakers are holding just fine.
