Mission tire rating
Can anyone tell me how many pounds the mission tires are rated for?
I'm on the verge of purchasing a set of Michelin XPS Ribs and I need to know if their rating is comparable to missions or rated higher.
The Ribs are rated at 3042,is this alright for my 3400RL?

I believe you have 7000 pound axles on a 2008 3400RL. You will have to check the axle itself, the rating is stamped on it if I recall correctly. Ours has 6000 pound axles and your tire selection would be sufficient, it does not appear so for 7000 pound axles. The bottom line is if you know what your trailer weight is, that holds the answer in itself. The only way to accuratley know the weight is to visit a scale. The Missions are rated at 3520 lbs @ 80 psi.
Bingo is right, you will need to know the weight of the trailer when fully loaded, and hooked up to tv, to determine if the Michelins will have a high enough rating to safely carry the load. If your actual loaded weight is within the limit of the tires you will be just fine.
The fact that you may have axles rated for 7000 lbs, has absolutely nothing to do with the tire load rating required.

The Michelin xps ribs are a lot better tire they are all steel radial I have put 80,000 miles on them no flats no blow outs. I put 52,000 on our 2001 Montana before I traded last year. They are a comerical truck tire.

Just know Jack that by going to the Michelin tires, you are de-rating the GVWR on that 2008 3400 to 13,500 lbs rather than the 15,500 lbs its currently rated at.

I agree,I want to take full advantage of those 7000 lb axles.
I actually ordered a set of Ribs from Costco before I read the load rating,thank goodness they didn't require a deposit Iam dropping that idea.
I just need a good recommendation for a G rated tire,I need to dump the Missions.I looking for an American made tire. Any suggestions?

The Goodyear G's are made in USA. Not to be confused with the Goodyear Marthons on the new Monties that are made in China.
I did end up buying Greenball Hiway Trooper G's in Utah on the road after loosing tread on 3 factory tires (not missions back in 2003). I do not remember if they were USA, nor did I keep the rig long enough to ever be a testimonial for them. I just know they are out there.
Did you ever find your rim rating?

Brad,your specs. look the same as mine except being a 2008.
Do you know what your rims are rated at? I haven't found the answer yet.

My approach to tires is ((GVWR-(GVWRx15% 0r 20%))/4)x1.15. This is "MY" thinking and I not suggesting it is expert. I did a lot of research but that's how I make up my mind about these things. Everyone has to do what they feel gives them the degree of comfort they they will accept.
For my new 3585SA GVWR is 15,325#, 15-20% of this is a realistic Pin weight leaving the tires carrying 12,260# - 13,026#. Each tire theoretically carries 1/4 of this or 3,065# - 3,256#. I then add a 15% safety margin to account for uneven loading, wind list, road camber, cornering, aging and a bit of carrying extra weight should I loose some pressure in the other tire on the same side. That gives me a tire load requirement of 3,524# - 3,745#. Using the Goodyear Load & Inflation tables, the G614 LT235/85R16 tire, which is marketed as a trailer tire with a speed rating of 75 MPH, will support 3550# at 100PSI. Both tire and aluminum rim will accept 110PSI cold inflation to give 3,750#. If I drop the inflation pressure to 95PSI, max load drops to 3,415# or below my targeted "I feel SAFE" requirement for 20% Pin weight but still well above the actual "Average" load that the tire will carry at that Pin weight. So now I have a tire that gives me a wide range of inflation pressures to match varied loading with a healthy safety margin.
I know I looked at the specs on the new 2008 models with the (GY Marathon??) ST 235/80R16 and posted them in another thread but now can't find the post. If anyone can confirm the tire used on the new 2008's I'll see if I can locate the load information again. The Marathon tire is listed in the GY site for 3000# at 65 PSI. I can't believe this is the tire they are using so it must be new. Goodyear has expanded their operations in China so it may even be the Mission tire in a different box. The original Missions were good for 3,520# at 80PSI. Both the Mission and Marathon tires are rated at their respective max loads for a maximum speed of 65MPH.

I haven't crawled under there to look yet. I'm up to my knee caps in Idaho snow and the Monty is in Colorado.

No problem. You're right, almost all the Monties could run those Mich Ribs and be fine. It's just the new ratings I'm trying to preserve as long as I can. I'm under the weight for Mich Ribs now, but I just hate loosing that extra capacity gained in 2007.

I thought it was you that showed me the link to the new Goodyear Marathon. Maybe not, but there is a new E rated Marathon at ~3,450@80psi and that is what Keystone grabbed onto for the 2008 anniversary, right off that slow boat from China.
