The first thing that I did when we got our Montana was replace the unbelievably loud Flojet with a Shurflo 4008. The difference was huge. Then I added, like many others, the extra flexible hoses which made it better still.

I also had tried the flexible hoses on the Flojet before replacing it, but it was still extremely loud.

Why is the noisy water pump worse on Montana's? I've never had a water pump this loud on any of the SOB'S I've owned before. The wife and I just except it, not the end of the world. Just makes no sense

I have always changed our pumps out and did the rubber base and flex hose. In our new 3731, i wish i could even see mine, its behind this mess. It is at the dealer as of today to clean this up and few other "minor" warranty issues

I was surprised how quiet the original pump is. Not even wanting to look at it in fear of Jinx showing up now.

I wonder if Keystone went with a Shurflo water pump instead of the Flojet which is why the pump is quieter.

They went with the lowest bid which can change at anytime. Usually companies bid for XXX number of units.

Just a FYI. Years ago at the Quartzsite RV show, a Shurflo dealer had the bottom of the line, cheapest pump on display running into an aquarium. It was virtually silent.

I had just upgraded the pump, installed pads and insulators and used the kit to quite the pump noise. There was only slight improvement. Lots of wasted money and time working on the wrong issue.

The point is that it is really not the pump but hammering within the pipes installed in the rig. I now have a SOB, cheap pump but all the water pipes are secured. There is no noticeable noise.

Pump

May sound daft, how about hanging the pump from the ceiling on a platform of wood with 4 rubber straps. Cause I held the pump in my hand and no loud noise whilest running still conected to the circuit.

I added the flex lines to mine along with a pressure tank so it will not run as much. What made to biggest difference was to unscrew it from the floor and sit it un-mounted on a thick bed of fiberglass insulation and then surround it with more insulation. It is nearly silent now.

Can you be sure that "surrounding" it with insulation won't make it overheat?

Flo-jet and shur-flo pumps are both a bit noisy. rubber feet insulators and covering it with an insulated box or similar will cut it down. I've dealt with these pumps for years in the marine industry which are identical to the RV industry, along with a lot of other vendor components.

We have a 2006 2955RL. It has a water pump that sounds like someone jackhammering under the rig. I have tried the rubber pad thing, foam pipe insulation on the pipes, and a few other things, without much improvement. On our rig, the space around the pump looks like a plumber’s nightmare, so we have just learned to live with it.

There's many different pump models out there, most of the quad pumps are quieter than other models, still fairly loud especially if mounted under the sink or in the camper somewhere. Mines in the baggage compartment so not so bad!

I was worried about the overheating issue also. So after a long run of the pump from a shower I went directly to it and put my hands around it and felt no heat what so ever.

These pumps are lots of times mounted in hot engine compartments in boats, never seen a overheat issue.

Looking for help in converting from the Flojet to a ShurFlo Rev 3 pump.

First off did Keystone ignore the installation recommendations as a matter of practice, or is it just mine? There isn't enough room in the pump area to connect the hoses straight on, as recommended, so they are immediately elbowed. Then, to top it off, the pump is connected directly into the rigid PEX tubing.

I have 2- 30" flexible, steel braid hoses with 1/2" FIP I plan to connect between the pump and PEX.

For anyone who has made the conversion, what did you use for the pump to hose connections? 1/2 inch brass street elbows? I couldn't find any other pre-made elbows and am considering making a comparable elbow of PVC.

How did you transition to the PEX? Shark bite? How far did you go from the pump? Should I put a loop in my flexible hoses?
