Looking at Montana 3160

We are current owners of SOB, but are seriously researching the Montana and visited our local dealer.. Our current rig is a bit over 36' and we are looking to go a bit smaller without giving up quality or luxuries. It seems that most companies seem to have adopted the thought that bigger is better. The 3160 is around 35' and we actually could go shorter with the right floor plan.

Would like to get your opinion about the dependability of your Montana and did Keystone step up and fulfill their warranty obligations? if anyone has the 3160 please chime in and give a review of your unit.

Thanks,
Sir

Have been happy overall with ours, not so much last couple of years with Keystone. A good dealer is very important for quality follow on support.

We have been very happy with our 2 Montanas (2008 & 2012). I couldn't agree more about dealer selection. Could make the difference as night and day. My dealer is VERY good.

We have been pleased with our Montanas over the years. We have had major fridge problems with our last but that is not on Keystone/Montana but rather Dometic.

Through it all it was our dealer that made the difference and because they carry the Montana line we will buy only from them.

We would agree with all the above. Our rig has been great. Keystone has more than met their obligations, but you must get a good dealer.

I was real happy with mine until about two years ago when a truck ran into the rear of mine. I received good customer service.

Not too happy with Keystone Warranty and Montana Reliability. Bought my 2016 HM 375 FL in June 2016. I had to start fixing it myself to get any use out of it when dealer appointments were too far out.

We had issues, but not some of the stupid assembly line errors seen in the last few years as new rvers have entered the market fueling high build rates. Good dealer important, but if you fulltime the issue is cloudy. We had two slides not adjusted to where they should have been, a door strut put on with short sheetmetal screws that pulled out, sheetmetal for vent airflow not done to vendor specs which hurt cooling, several drawers/fireplace where holes where not predrilled in the very hard hickory which resulted in wood splits that I had to epoxy back together, sloppy inside trim in a couple of places, king bed platform installed like a rookie, two screws in rear window that broke seal in frame that could have allowed water entry had I not seen and corrected, ceiling material not under trim strip on ceiling, no seal under shower bottom metal glass holders that caused water to flow out on floor, sawdust in lower inside shower wall to tub joist, black tank rinse inlet severely cocked sideways due to how pex tubing was run, and our rear ac was installed pointing off to the streetside by a few inches off true center. I believe that a trailer is a trailer and issues exist with all manufacturers. The wise shopper really closely reviews several manufacturers at large rv shows to see how they manufactured their product and where corners were cut, etc as well as what dealers in what areas to stay away from. This gives one a fighting chance of having a quality product where the unit is debugged by the dealer before you buy. Remember, unless you are buying direct from a manufacturer, the dealer is the customer of the rv company...and you are the customer of the dealer period. John

It is hardly possible to be an informed shopper these days. 83% of all RV' are made or controlled by either Thor or Forest River who seem to be competing for last place in Customer Satisfaction. I tried a dealer that had been a good supplier of parts but found out they are worse than Camping World. Keystone is not very customer active in support of problem issues and their first defense is to take it to the dealer, again, again, again ......

All I can say is for my experience with a 2004,2012 and my 2015 they have all been pretty much trouble free, except when I broke a dining room chair on my 2015 and the Dealer just went out in the lot and grabbed a new one and a bad toilet on my 2012 and Keystone shipped a new one in 2 weeks to the Dealer and I put it in myself

I have had three Keystone RVs. Two Mountineers and now a 2015 Montana. All and all they have been great. Yes some minor things here and there but nothing all that bad. I do have a good dealer here in Lake Havasu (not the selling dealer) that I has been very responsive to my needs.

So I would say chose you dealer based on there service record and go for it.

I bought a new 2015 3100rl. I've put about 6000 miles on it and recently completed the one year warranty period. Biggest repair issue was replacing the gas stove - the rest were mainly cosmetic and lack of attention to finish detail. The biggest PITA was trying to get things addressed by the dealer.

We have been very happy with our '15 3160RL. A few minor things but as stated by others, a GOOD dealer has been key for us. We had a SOB before and the difference is night & day. For us, the floor-plan is perfect, storage is great. If you are buying new, do your self a favor, have the dealer swap out the stock tires for Sailun 637's or Goodyear 614's. I wish I had. Also, check into the deducted AC units, a lot quieter.

That is a loaded question. I am surprised more people have not chimed in about their issues. There are lot of comments in various forums about quality, reliability and customer service. Most are not good. Poke around the forums and you will see. A lot of folks are looking for advice, others to vent. Few offer praise. I for one, am very satisfied with my Montana.

We'vebeen real happy with our 3160. We've put about 7000 miles and 70 nights on it. It's had some issues but we never lost camping time due to them. Main frustration has been loose trim. I'd love to steal the staple guns from their trim guys in the factory. We've also had good experience with our dealer and they did a great job prepping it. We have also enjoyed the floor plan and unit overall.

Remember the components, stove, refrigerator, water pump heater, tanks, and so on are built by the same companys. And all have problems. Don't expect great service from one brand and poor from another. They are all about the same and only as good as the dealer.

Ok!
5 Months ownership on an 2016 HM 375 FL. In for warranty repairs almost 4 months and awaiting soonest appointment in 4 weeks from now. Problems with Air Conditioning, Heating, Plumbing leaks, drain leaks, Roof problems, plus normal fit and trim. By far not my first RV but certainly my last Montana. Keystone has been my stumbling block as well as General RV the selling dealer.

Have had 3 Keystone products. A 19' Passport TO, a 32' Cougar, and now the 41' Montana. Would buy another Keystone product and ,God willing, may buy a new Monty 5-7 years from now just before retirement. Very happy customer! The Monty is the best of the three by far!

Purchased a 3160 in March or April of 2015, it was listed as a 2016 build. I would say we have experienced more problems then some of the others on here. We are still trying to get some of the accepted warrantee work completed. A real struggle to say the least, not nearly enough help from Keystone as I would have expected. We like the 3160 but quality control was on vacation when our's was built. The dealership is also to blame for some shoddy work. If I was to buy another RV you can bet we would to a ten hour PDI and no money paid until the problems were resolved to our satisfaction.
