Haul Gauge or similar for real time weight

Folks, in this forum there is always a healthy discussion about capacity of vehicles, weight of trailer/load etc. In many cases people are directed to go and weigh the truck and trailer. I came across this product recently (I have not yet purchased it), for a relatively small investment you could have real time weight feedback for the rig.

https://www.haulgauge.com/

I was wondering 3 things related to this ;

Q1) does any one on this forum have experience with it?

Q2) q2are there others competitors? I am not big on seeming to promote one brand but i have not found an alternative.
Answer 2) I just found that Curt is releasing in Dec19 BetterWeigh.
https://www.curtmfg.com/betterweigh

Q3) this would seem to be a great solution to know your current load/capacity and occasionally calibrate with the government scales?

Thoughts out there?

They appear to be the same

I have not used either of these devices. I just looked at both web sites. They appear to be the same device/application.

Ill bet Curt is rebranding under a deal with haul gauge.

Just my two cents.

They are the same just private labeled/Licensed to Curt

Our friends have it has not been reliable at all for them. Even if you do buy it you still need to scale to confirm accuracy since it does not physically weight your rigs. Reviews have been very mixed, however E-trailer reviews are very good.

Agreed, there have been mixed reviews. I see it as a potential low cost way to provide insight and then use the scales as the final truth.

Yes it does seem to be a rebranded HaulGauge licensed to Curt. To me this adds the weight of the Curt organization behind the product.

I bought one and find it very accurate. Installed it and then sat on the fifth wheel hitch plate (covered with paper to keep my bum clean) it registers my weight within one pound.
I have found it to work well, accurate and also I called for info and they were very helpful.
And no, I don’t know them or have any connection to them.

Thanks for the insight.

Does it give you load distribution as well? That seems to be a feature that was planned but some folks talk about how it was not yet providing that info.

Weight distribution yes. If you have any questions I would suggest you call them direct. They were friendly and helpful when I called them about a question I had concerning setup. My 2004 Ford code would not scan into their system. I gave them my vin number and they called me back in about an hour with the data needed to continue setup. I’m very happy with the device and their customer service.

I just received my Haul gauge & did a weight check
for my 2019 Chevy dually by itself. It registered a weight of about 9400, considering my truck has a toolbox/ fuel tank combo, curt 24k hitch & tools etc inside the truck. Next I'm going to the scale & see how close it is to that #. Can't hookup to to my 5th wheel since it's still at the factory being repaired, but will when I pick it up & post the #s then.p

I'm hoping to weigh the truck within the next couple of days and hopefully pick up our 5th wheel after that.

What I found was the CAT scales add about 40 pounds to at least one of the set of wheels.

I found it out the first time I weighed and was not on the scales correctly and I was standing where the front wheels should be. They weighed me 40 pounds heavier than what I actually weigh.

So you may want to keep that in mind as you make the comparisons.

How did your comparison of Haul Gauge to scales go?

Well, after weighing the the truck & trailer at a Cat scale on our trip to Florida I found that it was way off. It came in light by several thousand and while it was plugged into my svc port on my new truck it began running rough & seemed to be missing. I immediately pulled over & unplugged it then restarted the truck with the problem gone. I haven't used it since & since it was way off I don't plan on trying it again.
I haven't contacted the manufacturer yet, but I plan to soon.

Once we have weighed the truck and RV loaded and ready to roll we find no need to weigh it again and again as the weight will not vary much after that.
