Big back window leaking

We are just heading home from our maiden voyage for the year. When I went to pull the recliners away from the rear window I noticed some water in the bottom area of the window frame. It had rained on our way to the campsite so we think there is a leak in the top of the window. The window, when our rig is parked at home, faces south. It appears that the top left area has the butyl tape flaking off and we believe that has left a hole for the water to enter.

There is also a bunch of dust inside the window area. What is weird is that the Emergency window won't slide. It feels like it is bound up. I hope the window isn't shifting....

Now the question is what to do about it...silicone caulk where the putty has flaked off or take the window out and re putty it? I think that option is too drastic. We are waiting to get home to work on it. I couldn't find any info in the search so sorry if this us a repeat question.

Silicone caulk is what I used and it's been over a year and quite a few bad storms since with no leaks.

Awesome! Good to know. Any ideas why the emergency window won't slide? The grange seems to be straight so we don't think it sagged but we well look when w get home.

Carol-- Check the drain holes in the bottom of the window frame. Sometimes over the winter the dirt and etc get in them and they will not drain. Just take something small and clear the holes of any crud. While you're at it clean the entire window gutter or slide area of dirt and etc. If the holes are not plugged, check the caulking around the windows. It has a tendency to dry out and come out from under the window trim causing a direct area for the water to get in.

I have not seen all emergency windows, but what I've seen are all swing out windows, where you get the entire opening to jump through when you open them. If you are using a window that slides, the best fix I've seen is silicone spray on the channels the window slides in. We also have used silicone caulk to stop leaks around our windows. Just remove the butyl caulk that has squeezed past the edge of the frame and apply the silicone caulk.

Have I mentioned that I love this forum??? I LOVE IT!!! Thanks to everyone for helping us out. We just got home so we will check it tomorrow night. I hadn't thought about cleaning the weep holes and the silicone spray in the slide area is a great idea. My emergency window slides to the right. You pull the handle towards you to release it and then it only slides about a 1/4". It should move over completely. So right now it is not very useful as a window.

Thanks again!
