I am curious if any one has purchased a 06 Montana with the value pkg. which seems to come with every Montana, without shock absorbers on the axles?

We need to find out about the no shocks issue on the Montana.. The Value package on the 05 and 06 Montana's list shock absorbers as part of the package..Hope that Montana has not made one of those "changes" and eliminated shocks as a cost saving measure..that would be a REAL DUMB thing..Have seen some post that say they did not get the shocks.....a bad omen....

We have a 2006 model 3475 purchased in August. Yes, it has shocks. They are white in color.

The folks who have late model Montana's WITH the value package need to take a good look and see if they have shocks or not..If not...there is a problem...

Steve,
Please take a look at your Monty tires. According to the Montana website they are supposed to be 235/85R16E sized and rated tires. At least one 2006 3400RL was delivered with 235/80R16 tires. Please note the 85 vs. 80 as there is a difference. The 80R16 tires are speced to be used on the lighter Mountaineer 5ers.
And by the way, the September 2006 Montana brochure states that Shock Absorbers are included in the Value Package.

No Shock Absorbers on some 2006 Montanas? Welll I also noticed that I did not have any and mentioned it to the dealer and he said we did not need them because of the Mor-Ryde suspension. What did I know. Told him my other 5er had them and he said this was a different make and model and could not compare. Just came across this forum subject on the shocks and want to know what was done by those who found they had none their 5er. Since I purchased the RV in Florida and live in the northeast, I want to get this situation fixed pronto.

It is my understanding that if you have the Dexter Axles with Mor/ride suspension, you do not need shocks. I believe they switched over to Dexter during for the 2006 models - I know mine has them. Sweet ride on those Mor/Rides.

We just had a seminar by Mor-Ryde here at the fall rally and mor-ryde says that shocks with the re mor ryde system are counter productive.. They are not needed.

Must be right Rich, my '06 has Mor-Ryde suspension with no shocks. It rides real smooth, and I can't tell that it needs them.

They must not be "counter-productive" Rich, or Mor-Ryde would not show shocks on every installation on thier web. Unnecessary perhaps.
http://www.morryde.com/pdfs/updated/...structions.pdf I was just looking at the installation instructions for the Mor-Ryde, and it includes reinstalling the shocks. Trailair has a similar system, and they even recommend shocks for an improved ride.

The Mor-Ryde aftermarket kit has upper shock towers built into the replacement spring hangers as shown:
If the new Monty's don't have the tower, then they weren't meant to have shocks. If they have them, somebody forgot or they are "optional".

May be 'optional' but they definitely improve the ride of the 5er. Big boss didn't have them; had them added to his unit last month (at his expense) and notices a very great improvement in towing comfort (not near the jerking that he was experiencing earlier). Can not imagine why Keystone dropped them other than $$$$. My unit has Trailair center point suspension with shocks and Trailair pin.

Skypilot, happy with your trailair pin? Notice a lot of difference?

You might want to call Mor-ryde and ask them about the shock issue. As I said we had the mor Ryde rep here at the rally and we had a tour of the factory.. Mor-Ryde did do a evaluation of shocks with the Re suspension system early on and found that the shocks were counter productive. My guess is that the video is of the early systems before the evaluation..Call Mor Ryde and get the correct information from the source. Gary Wheeler, Mor Ryde is a good source.

Rich, I did just that. I talked to a Doug at Mor-Ryde and here is the explanation:
The after market kit for retrofits is an RE version and has shock towers. Lippert-Montana uses an LRE version without shock towers. For my 2003, he recommended definately going to the LRE without the towers, as they have had quite a bit of success on the Montanas and other 5ers without the shocks. He said the RE version is rarely used any more but are available for some frame model applications, or for those that prefer shocks. He did say that they have found installation of shocks can actually defeat the ride performance of the rubber equalizer.
Sky pilot, this would not necessarily be the case for the Trailair, as it actually uses an air bag and probably does get some bounce without shocks. I assume that is why they shock thier pin box as well.
Good news to new Monty owners - most likely don't need shocks anymore. Good news to me - getting a retrofit installed by Mor-Ryde to put an end to the cheasy spring hanger issue.

Sometimes it takes a bit of effort to get the true facts but it is always worth the effort. You will be very satisfied with the suspension..we also have the Mor-ryde pin box and we have a very smooth ride..
