Montana LED tail light install

I'm here at the National rally as was shopping around looking to replace my factory brake lights with LED's. I found a pair at a salvage yard for $20 a piece. I know I could have gotten them cheaper possibly but I have been to 4 salvage places already and that is what I found.

Anyway I took photos with one new LED installed on the right side and the factory light on the left side in both photos.

The 1st photo is with the lights on only, no brakes. The 2nd is with the brakes applied.

I really see a big difference in person verses the photos. I'm glad I changed them out. I also bought a center brake light. Just trying to decide what is the best and easy to install location. Properly will wait when I get home to install.

We did this to or 2002 also but never thought about the third light. With ours being a older model with the wrap around blazer tail lights I had a little harder time finding a replacement as I did not want to just change the bulb with an LED one. I found an replacement that is a flat panel that is very bright especially when you hit the brakes.. Now I think I will be looking for a third light to install as I think that would nice..

Lights look good. I also used led but I also replace the backup lights with red stop turn. I have no plans to back in at night. Gives people 2 more lights to see.

X2 on replacing the backup lights. Can't have too many tail, stop and turn lights.

Also got rid of the feeble backup lights and replaced with led. Furniture looks real good! I think you did a great upgrade on both counts. John

Thank you!

I might go back and get 2 more to replace the backup lights so they match. I think they only had 2-3 left.

Here's a picture of the 3rd brake light I got at a different salvage yard for $15.

I replaced both tail lights and backup lights with LED's. Really makes a BIG difference. This picture is with just the tail lights on. Right side LED's, Left side original lights.

I got 2 LED tail lights from Harbor Freight, and I LOVE them!! I think I will replace the back-up lights for additional turn/stop lights too.

Here is a light for the wrap around tail lights on older units.. They work great.. A little pricey but very nice look and well built..

In 7 years the links Drifty1 (Larry) supplied in Post #2, #7, and #16 have obviously changed and don't work any longer. I know Larry has sold the rig but hopefully he will see this Post, dig into his thousand of photos, and come up with some pics.

I did see him install them. The flat plate was easy, and boy were they bright!

I am not sure I have any photos of the taillights on the old Montana but this link is very similar to the ones I installed.

New to the group today (10-27-2022)
We bought our 2009 3400RL last November in a private sale. I upgraded the back in the Spring of 2022 with twin LED 3rd brake lights (with STROBE Module) and (4) LED Flood Lights on the reversing light circuit. The strobe makes the 3rd brake lights flash fast, then slow, then solid ON within a couple of seconds with each application of the brake pedal. Backup flood lights turn night into day.
