Test Drive

Went to the local Chevy dealer to check out the new 2015 trucks. They had a limited (2/2500 and 1/3500 DRW) inventory of diesels. Took a drive in a 2500 4X4 Crew Cab SB, just like the one I have now. The ride on rough roads was much better than my current truck and thats the only thing that seemed to be an improvement. Turning radius was worse and it has 200Lbs less cargo capacity than mine. Pulling into a parking spot with cars on both sides was almost impossable. Can't imagine what a long bed dually would be like. I do like the Duramax/Allison combo but, the turning radius is a deal breaker for me on the GM trucks.

My next truck will most likely be a Fiat with the Cummins engine.

I did notice the better turning radius on the Ram 3500 vs. the Chevy. Not sure how they did that, but I can get around in small parking lots in my dually well enough that I sold my Kia Soul. I'm committed to a daily driver now for sure.

My wife and I haven’t “pulled” into a parking place with the truck in so long I wouldn’t know what you are talking about.

I agree - I park out in the boondocks to avoid door dings. I have noticed that parking the trailer in the driveway seemed harder though. I'm not sure if that's because of the trucks turning radius or if I'm just getting worse at backing that behemoth up in our limited space.

Even on the Dodges it was the better ride quality that sucked me in even with the worse fuel mileage. I think the new Dodges turn tighter then the old ones do. I know that even the old Chebby I had as a work truck took a 40 acre field to turn in. But they were a very comfortable truck compared to the Fords we had.

Can't imagine driving a truck with a worse turning radius that this one. Guess I'm a committed Dodge driver.

Had a 2008 Dodge 2500 before and both the turning radius and the ride comfort improved considerably in our F350. Before buying the Ford I looked at the towing specs on a 2011 Dodge 3500 and the F350 had more towing and payload capacity. The creature comforts of the cab were also a significant upgrade. Won't be towing our new 5er till mid July so hope I'm still happy with it once I get it out on the road pulling. Going to miss the engine brake in the Cummins and the small gas tank is going to be a pain in the Ford.

I really don't know how the turning radius compares between the 3 major brands of heavy/super duty trucks. My F350 seems to have a fairly sharp turning radius for a 1 ton truck, but not as tight of course as our Explorer.
