Another fireplace question

I took it apart last year, cleaned it, replaced burnt out bulbs and it worked fine until we got a month into our two month trip. Lights all still work fine (ambiance is everything after all), but whatever little blower is inside stops working after about a half hour. Heat still comes out the top, but nothing like when the blower is running. Any easy fix, or do I need to put in a new blower?

I don't think I would use the heat after the fan stops. With no forced air flow it may overheat internally.

I would open it up and check/tighten all connections and see if that corrects the problem.

If you can get access to the Fan, I'ld try and shoot a little Silicone spray on the bearing/sleeve and see if it frees up. We have a fan that hasn't been used all summer, but dragged out recently because of the warm temps in South Central Florida and paying our own Electric, and it didn't want to run at the proper speed. Gave it a couple shots of Silicone and back to working like new.

Sounds like the motor is overheating and shutting down. This could be caused by an accumulation of crap on the shaft or some kind of binding of the blower shaft/blower cage/s or even a motor that is in the process of failing. More work is needed to see if you can understand what is going on. If you take it apart and can get to the blower cage/s, if there is any binding when you try to spin it...that is a problem. If it turns free and you can't see any evidence of loose connections, and it will restart...it very well could be a motor getting ready to fail. This is one that isn't easy for someone else to diagnose. John

Did you turn the thermostat knob to low?

We found dirt/crud buildup to be the culprit.

In our case it's cat hair that needs to be removed annually.

An annual cleaning works well for us. The first time we did this was after a couple bulbs burned out. We were amazed at the amount of dirt that had accumulated. Since then our annual cleaning keeps down the crud and so far hasn't resulted in any component failures.

It's a pain, but the annual cleaning is probably the best solution. I had your same issue and it would work on low only, as on high it would shut off after 30 minutes. It didn't look that dirty to me when I vacuumed the heater element, but now it works. I tried vacuuming the general area, but that did not get the dust and lint off the heater element.

OK, got to ask, how often should I take the Dimplex Fireplace apart and clean, or do i need to wait for a bulb to burn out.
