How sweet it is........

This Friday we're heading out. My wife and I and our 16 year old grandson are going to Topsail Hill Preserve for 2 weeks. My oldest son in SOB will be camping right next to us with his wife and 2 boys. We're going to have to fish for 2 weeks. Some days off the beach and some days out on the Gulf in a boat. It's a really tough deal but somebody has to do it. The really nice thing about site #146 is something we found out last year. Our roof mounted satellite works on that site and we were able to get Nashville Networks while down there. A little touch of home and the ability to know what is going on back home is really nice. I can already imagine the taste of all that fresh grilled seafood. Yum....Yum!!!

Dave, you JUST HAD to do this, didn't you!?!? I wanna' go back down there so bad I can smell the air!! It lingers in my nostrils still from when we was done there the first part of March.

And then, you had to go and mention the fresh grilled seafood!

Have a fun and memorable 2 weeks, you lucky stiff!

Sounds like a great time. Make many wonderful memories and enjoy the seafood for those of us who can't.

It wasn't as sweet as I had hoped. We fished from the beach (me and 2 grandsons) and had a blast catching fish. We went back the next day and the June grass had moved in. It stayed the remainder of the trip. If you haven't experienced it, June grass is some sort of algae which forms offshore as the water heats up. Once is starts coming ashore it lasts from 1 to 2 months before it all rots and goes away. Fishing in it makes your line look like a clothesline hung with moss or something green. It collects where you tie your leader to your main line and at any swivel or lure tied to the line. You can't catch fish with this mess on your line. We did fish offshore on the first Wednesday of our trip and caught Red Snapper and Dolphin (not Flipper) fish. The other days my buddy could take us out the water was too rough.

In the past we have always gone to Topsail in May or October. We haven't experienced these problems then. The traffic in Destin was as bad as we have ever seen it. In the future we will return to our old routine.
