FIRE, FIRE, don't want no stinking fire......

Well, I didn't have one, but got the kit to insure I don't. Has anyone but me not had the kit installed for the Dometic reefer recall? We have been 'out of service' for a while, and didn't need the retrofit.
But... now we do, so I sent off to the Montana dealership and got the kit, I will install it forthwith.
the cat and I read the instructions, but I nodded off after page two.

Good move, Ozz. The dealer that installed mine on the Norcold said they get $45 from Norcold for the work. Are they over paid?

You really are a glutton Ozz. Isn't recall work paid for by the mfg and done by the dealer????

I had the dealer do the retrofit on our Norcold when I had the tire damage repaired.

Well, the Montana is still up on jack-stands and the dealer is 40 miles away. It looks like at least an hour job.
I figured the job would not be too bad, but Murphy's law and everything..

Ours was a booger bear for the service man that did it. IIRC, the boiler insulation was squashed, and he couldn't get it turned just right for the mod. He cussed and discussed it quite a bit, and finally got it on. He earned his 45 bucks!

I checked with Norcold at the time when I had mine done 2 or 3 years ago, they suggested a dealer here in town. Since I had mine done by them, they have now become a Montana dealer and have built a large new shop at the edge of town. Also been rated one of the top 10 dealers on somebodies list. Don't recall who's. The co-owner done the work on mine and he had to got to Norcold for a class on how to up-date them. Price was 0000 $$$ which was right. I watched them do the work and it really wasn't to complicated. About 30 to 40 minuites. Hardest part was carrying out the drill and screwdriver...

The hardest part might well be making sure that Ozz follows the interpreted directions of what the supervisory cat is trying to tell him, since the instruction manual was obviously a sleep-inducing aid!! Did I hear a retaliatory "Meow" there??? Good luck, Ozz, and don't forget to let the cat out of the repair zone!!

OZZ,
I would suggest letting the "RV certified" tech do it. I know you are an HVAC tech but are you certified for Norcold. Just thinking about future warranty and liability.

I will do it. For one thing I have no way of getting the Monte to the dealer, for another, I am cleared to do it by Jim, the service manager at the Montana Dealer where we bought our last two RV's.

I did mine...and would recommend taking your time around the electric element as I believe that socket is the Achilles heal (don't be bumping it or any pressure on that point).
