6.7 owners please

I have decided that I will attempt to change the oil on my new Dodge, and I have decided to use Rotela T 15/40. At Wally World 1 gal of this oil is 11.00 +. what type of oil filter should I get from W World? they sell several different brands, does anybody have the proper filter number from W World also.
I'll be checking into buying oil in bulk 55 gal and keep the can in the shop and pump out when I need more, the excess Ill take to a reclame center pep boys they take it for free, that way I wont be stock piling the old stuff.
thanks ahead. TT2

I was shown a demostration by a oil representative and he cut open a wix filter and a fram filter. I was shocked....the wix filter had 3-4 more times the material inside to filter than the fram did. I never bought another fram filter....No wonder they are so cheap.

The standard Fram "Extra Guard " oil filter for a Dodge 09 6.7 liter engine is part #PH3976A . From this part number you can cross reference almost any brand of filter. Depends on your preference.

I've been getting my filters from here;

http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=LF3972

http://www.genosgarage.com/products.asp?dept=99

They carry the standard recommended Cummins filter and the better one which is what I use. I've had 3 Dodge 1 T's and have been doing business with them for several years. I think Dodge/Cummins recommends against using Fram and at least one other filter. They have been offering a kit that has enough oil and fuel filters for 2 or more changes at a pretty good price.

A 5 gal. case at Sam's Club is $52.40. I used the Wix Filter, (57620) on the advice of my mechanic. He had the same feelings towards Fram as others have stated in this thread. That filter cost $10.49 at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Brings my cost to do an oil change to $45.17. A lot cheaper than the $90+ oil change places around town charge. Lube isn't important as I have found no certs on the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500. I also added the Fumoto Quick Drain Valve to lessen the mess.

My dealer provides free service every 6K as long as I own the truck. Couldn't pass up a deal like that. By the way I also bought the truck in 2007 for $2,500 under dealer invoice.

When I was last at Wal-mart they had the Mopar/Dodge filter on the shelf. Same filter that I bought at the Dodge dealer....for about $2.00 less than what the dealer charged. I'm getting my next filter at Wal-mart.

Wow!!!!
Thanks for all the great input and all the choises I can pick from.
Sams club is cheaper than W World it's 11.50 per 1 gal container plus tax of course.
Now I have to find a friend with a Sams Club Card.

On Edit, Well I ordered the Kit from Genos 4 oil filters and two fuel filters 112. door to door.
Now I have to start stock piling my oil, or go bulk, I like the idea of bulk with a hand crank from Horber Freight it will give me a lot of changes but I dont like the storage of the 55 gal drum, do they sell it in 20 gal barrels I wonder??

On Edit second time. Just a FYI for all the 09 - 6.7 users from Geno's------ the fuel filter for the 09 6.7.

Quote his words, "What is the build date of your truck? If it was built prior to 12/15/08. The filters in the 4/2 kit will be the same.
If your truck was built after 12/15/08, it uses a different fuel filter.
However, both filters will actually fit but have different designs. The newer filters have a dual filter/separator element. The older unit is a single element.
If you have the newer filters, you can use the older filters but do not dispose the of the old filter canister. The reason being is,
you will be able to re-use the old housing and replace just the element once they become available. At the moment Fleetguard has forecasted the production date towards the end of July"

Fram may have changed but when I bought the 03 there was a post that Dodge would not warranty engine damage if you use a Fram filter. The foam rubber broke down and plugged the oil ports. I have used WIX ever since.

Darn, I thought Fram was better than that. I would like to use Motorcraft (Ford) but usually get Fram because I buy my oil and filters from Autozone, Pep Boys, or Kragen. Walmart does not ever have enough of what I need. My truck needs 15 quarts and an oil filter. So far my oil changes are costing me about $75. Having it done locally costs about $100-120. On recent trip across country I got an oil change for $88 in Oklahoma.

I just found a Napa and have to check there or will I have to start shopping around because I sure pay a lot more than you guys for oil and filters. Oil is about $15 or more per gal. (I need almost 4 gallons) and the filter runs about $20. It goes lower when things are on sale.

With all the oil pumps in California I would think it would cost less, but come on, it's California. Besides, the oil pumped in California is probably sent to Texas or Oklahoma for refining.

BTW - gasoline in Southern Cal is over $3.00/gal everywhere. Diesel is about $2.75.

biotch, biotch, biotch, whine, whine, whine...

Don, many Walmarts carry the Mopar filter you need. If yours doesn't, then I'd use the Fram equivalent. They do carry that one. Mine has had Fram more often than Mopar oil filters.

Are you going to the Rotella T synthetic? I went to 10,000 mile oil changes when I did that.

HOWEVER, Don, do NOT go to synthetic in the 6.7 until 30,000 miles. That's right in the manual. They say using synthetic sooner will not allow the engine to properly break in. That tells me they recognize synthetic significantly reduces friction (which as you know is required for breakin). That's enough to tell me that after 30k, synthetic is a good thing.

John, it must have changed. There's nothing in my 6.7 manual about not using Fram or any other filter. I know the Ford 6.0 requires a specification that was not (at that time, anyhow) available in anything but the motorcraft filter and the brand from the company that makes those (forgot the name).

Friends do not let friends use Fram filters. Use Google and check it out for yourself, Fram has one of worse reputations in the business. Their filters contain less filter material and in same cases, cardboard valving. I don't sell filters, make filters, or own stock in any filter company, so I'm not making this up.

For example, look here: http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfi...lterstudy.html

And don't even get me started on K&N air filters...

As long as my truck is under the 100k warranty, I'm using nothing but OEM.

I use Valvoline oil with the Cummins logo on the bottle. Fleetguard from Geno's or Wix from NAPA for filters. Many moons ago we cut a Wix and a Fram open at the auto parts store where I worked. The Fram was cardboard with a string tied around it to hold it together. The Wix had a metal cage around the filter element. Fram is the mission tire of oil filters.
