Slide In Camper Weight

We have a 2016 Chevy Silverado 3500 diesel dually, eight foot bed. The pay load rating is 5,000 lbs. We are considering purchasing a slide in camper for a trip to Alaska but the ones we are looking at exceed 5K lbs pay load. Do I need to beef up the suspension on a already heavy duty truck or am I missing something in the weight figures? We currently have a 16,500 lbs Montana 5th wheel which the truck pulls with no effort. Thanks for educating me on this subject!

My 2016 Chevy Silverado diesel 3500HD High Country dually has a GCWR Gross cargo weight of 31,000lbs, add up your passengers, fuel and other stuff in the cab, you should have plenty to put a nice bed camper in your truck. Stats should be in your diesel supplement book for the truck.

Look in the door jam for GVWR. That number minus the weight of your truck and goods is the limit for the loaded weight of the camper. All suspension upgrades will do is enable a level ride and possibly better handling.

Look on the Tire and Information sticker on the door jam, it will list the exact cargo capacity of your truck. 5000 sounds like a number off a sales brochure....and not correct.
