Access To Internet While Fulltiming

People,

Well, I’m getting exactly nowhere with my need, (more than just a “desire,”) to have both phone and Internet connectivity as I visit just about every place but big cities in my 5th wheel.

Automated replies from supposed customer support people at Verizon don’t seem to actually answer my questions. And at T-Mobile, it seems that you have to be an existing customer in order to simply as the question. I had to fake a phone model number, and put a “?” in where they wanted the T-Mobile customer number. I got two automated replies, telling me I could change my question if I desired, by going to the links the reply furnished.

My question is…How do I make my desktop PC be able to surf the net from the most out of the way places possible? I think I already know what a laptop will do.

I don’t care that laptops can use a PCMCIA card to connect at “hot spots,” or with a special cable to a laptop. My wife’s laptop will be with us, but I want to use my own dang PC. And I don’t want to get to whatever “hot spots” they have in the various larger places on the map. And, if I can get that to connect, I’m guessing my wife can tap into it via a “home network,” or maybe even via a USB connection. But I really want to get this PC on line, while traveling.

During my retirement, I want to transcribe a bunch of old slides I have from my Air Force time, and create and share them on CD, and/or on line.

I’d like to be able to surf the net, through a cell phone, from wherever I can get cell phone service. I’ve seen that mentioned, but in connection to those dang laptops, again.

I can buy an adapter for the PC, that will allow it to accept PCMCIA cards, but don’t know if that’s compatible with what Verizon or T-Mobile are selling for laptop connectivity.

Is that not clear? Am I mumbling? I wish Verizon and T-Mobile could understand.

But if anyone can tell me if they’ve done just that, I’d very much appreciate it. I do know that my Alaskan cell phones won’t do any connectivity in this area, and that ISP is only trying out wireless connectivity in Anchorage, right now.

Seemed like Verizon only has one of the better services in the D.C. area, or San Diego. But nowhere else!

Yet I keep hearing people talk about having mobile connectivity, and for a low price. I personally don’t care what it costs. I want unlimited surfing time, and the ability to do so without having to park in some “hot spot,” or be required to use my wife’s laptop. I want the cell phone to be able to dial into the ISP, and simply let my PC go from there.

I might go with DataStorm, when they’ve got enough competition to bring those ridiculous prices into line.

Anyone out there have a clue?

Thanks,
Steve in Fairbanks
