Gang,
Just returned from the Las Vegas RV dealer after having the furnace noise corrected. They had to "place reinforcements in two places" to correct the bang. I used the furnace for the first time last night, and waited for the bang and didn't get one. I mentioned to the service writer, that Keystone needed to be made aware of this issue. His response was, "they are paying for the repair and know about what had to be done". I continued to press him that the factory needed to be aware of this issue, because, I was certain that our rig wasn't the only one made with this problem.
I could have repaired this on my own, but since it was under warranty, I felt that it should be there problem to solve.
BTW, the keystone website shows two RV dealers as Montana dealers in the Las Vegas area. The first one shown, Carl's is out of business and the other "Las Vegas RV" has Montanas on their lot but I had the understanding from the service writer, that they also were not a factory dealer for Montana. He did tell me that they would honor the Keystone warranty.
Sincerely yours,
Steve

What Ozz said about cross-bracing. I went to Home Depot and bought 3' of aluminum angle and cut it in half. I then epoxy glued each piece diagonally across the broadside of the furnace. Solved our noise problem.
Actually, I believe, what ozz was talking about was cross-braking, not bracing. Essentially, they take a piece of sheet metal and put a crease diagonally from one corner to the other, and another from the other corners diagonally, making an X on each large surface of the duct work. Making it look like this:

Most of you probably can see this technique applied on the furnace ducting of your stick built houses. It makes the panels stiffer and keeps the surface from popping back and forth, which makes the bang sound. It is cheap to do while braking the duct work. The process of bending sheet metal is done on a "brake press", hence the term, "braking". It is easy, and cheap to do because it does not require any additional materials, and probably only takes an extra 2 seconds per panel to accomplish. I'm not sure if this is utilized in the Montana duct work or not, since I don't have mine yet. ....If they don't, it is just plain silly on their part.

Anyway, I guess it doesn't help much to close the gate after the cows get out, so if your furnace "bangs", adding an actual piece of bracing material, like a hunk of angle aluminum for stiffening, is pretty much your only choice.

Thanks, I looked earlier, and saw the wall you described, mine comes out by removing six or eight screws. I believe that I can fix this trouble, using the suggestions posted here. How would I file a complaint with Keystone about this on behalf of all of us? It would seem that we have a case that should be addressed by their design team. Mind you, I don't care to stir up trouble, but if there are as many on this forum that have experienced this trouble, I believe that it should be brought to the attention of the Keystone people.
Stimpy, on this forum is a section titled something like "What I'd say to Keystone..." I once got an email from a Keystone rep about something I posted there so I know they read those. You could post a comment there if you want.
