Vacuum cleaners ??

If you do not have the built in Vacuum what kid do you use. We have the Dirt Devil (red) with the beater head. We are looking for a small but powerful unit. Any suggestions?
Cheers

We have two shedding dogs. I use the Eureka 20.0 "the boss" silver vac. I just bought a new one a couple of weeks ago at Walmart for under $50. It really does the job and is small enough to fit in a closet or behind the couch.

We also have the Eureka "The Boss" but ours is yellow. We've tried numerous vacuums over the years and this one does better than any other small vacuum we tried. But it does not do as good a job as a full blown residential vacuum. That's just our opinion, though. On those occasions we went and got our house vac from the kids' basement it became obvious how much the smaller vac missed. But it does do a decent job.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

John, I was going to buy a Dirt Devil! Is yours a full sized vacuum or one of the smaller ones? We have a silver Eureka "Boss" and our consensus is the same as Steve's....good but not as good as a full sized one.

I use the Eureaka Boss and also have a hand-held dirt devil I use for hard to reach places every other week. I keep my upright beside the kitchen table covered with one of those vacuum cleaner covers with the skirt. you don't even notice it's there.

I use to clean residentual homes as a business and swear by the Electrolux. You can buy them rebuilt. It's not clean, until you clean it with a Electrolux.

I have a Kenmore progressive canister vacuum. It is small and cost only $250. This is the only vacuum I plan on buying for the next 20 years. IT is small and does a great job of vacuuming. Consumer reports rated it as the best buy award. The dirt devil small model got a very poor rating. I figure that I don't want the vacuum to make me mad or take too long or I will never vacuum.

I wish the built in Dometic vacuum had a beater bar instead of the simple floor tool they provide. I wonder if there is anything like that on the market. The Electrolux beater would be prefect if it could be adapted to the Dometic hose. Any ideas??

Bob and Norse ... there was a lengthy discussion regarding this very issue just last week or so. I don't know how to post the link, but set your Active Topics for 2 weeks, go to "Additions and Improvements" and look for the thread entitled "Vacuum beater and beater bar attachment." Ozz gives all the information needed to purchase a beater bar that will attach to the central vac hose. According to Ozz, it works great. If you still have questions after reading that thread, you might want to pm or email Ozz.

Good luck ... and welcome to the MOC!

John, We picked up a nice bagless cleaner at Home Depot for under $100. It comes apart so you can use the wand and has several attachments. We really like the fact you can plug it in and reach both ends of the 5er with cord to spare. the make is RYNO. It also has a small beater hed that works get on the chairs and couch.

Bob and Norse, we got ours at Mar-Beck Appliance Parts in the metro Kansas City area. They have a website but I did not see the beater bar on their website but called and ordered it. I picked it up locally so saved shipping. With tax mine was 53.60. It's a well built unit. Ozz, another member, first posted here about this.

If you call them, their part number is FA-5710. They call it a "power nozzle." Ozz says it works great. We are still waiting for the Montana to arrive, the one with the central vac, so I cannot attest to its prowess. But it looks like it will do the job. Ozz swears by it.

Here's the company info. They will ship to you.

I carry a shark with me. Very small but powerful. You have to empty right after use due to lack of dust storage.

It last until I return home and then clean with my Rainbow.

I was in Mar-Beck yesterday and was told the power nozzle I got is made by Eureka, although it has no brand name on it. Now I wonder if Eureka makes the central vac for Dometic or that was just coincidence. Ozz, maybe you could shed light on this since you ordered the first one. Did you just match up parts?

TMarshall,
I also have the kenmore progressive canister vac and love it. Like you, I checked all the consumer reports and what not before buying a new unit. We have two very hairy medium size dogs and a cat who sheds more than both of the dogs together. I didn't get the central vac because it didn't have a beater bar; decided to bring the kenmore with us. I love the little mini power head on the kenmore. It allows me to do the furniture and the curtains. Also, all the on board tool attachments allow me to get the hard to reach spots.

I was wandering around Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday while Vicki was doing some shopping in there. I saw a Shark canister pull along with a beater bar that looked really good. If we weren't going with the central vac and were buying a vac for the MOntana I'd seriously consider that one. I think it was called the "Shark Pursuit." The beater bar was narrower than a home style vac and looked like it might fit between bed and closet. Maybe.

Ours is the small hand held. Bag about the size of a 1 lb coffee can. Not much suction.
Thanks for all the replies. Now I have to do some research.

The most impressive vacuum I've ever seen is the Miele. A bit pricey but will last a lifetime. We were buying Dirt Devils and Hoovers every couple of years. The Miele will undoubtedly outlast any of those.

It's a canister, so it takes up some space, but you can vacuum and carry on a conversation at the same time, it is SO quiet.

Just my $.02

We use a Shark cordless with attached hand held vac. It has rug brushes and I love it. It looks like a little toy upright. But, I don't think they make them anymore.
