Sewer Smell

We are staying in Bullhead City, AZ for about 6 weeks. It's still pretty warm down here so we've had to use our AC a lot. After being out for a couple hours, we came back to open the door and smell a horribly strong sewer smell. We checked all over but didn't see any obvious problems. The smell went away, so we went on about our day. This morning we just turned on the AC and, once again, the sewer smell.

Anyone have any ideas? We've never had this issue.

We use Happy Camper in all our tanks and don't get any smell. The galley tank can get quite bad almost as bad as the black tank and the vent is usually under the sink. Hope this helps.

My 3750 had a vent under the galley sink. It was loose and I would get a good stink at times. There have been many discussions on that in the past.

The odor could also be coming from the grey tank through the drain of the shower. You probably don't have a P trap, but have the other device that tends to get clogged and stays open, allowing the smell to rise from the grey tank. I have cleaned ours out with a small bottle brush, which restores the function of the valve, which is usually attached to the drain of the shower.

There's also the issue of the black tank vent being located near most bathroom vents. If your vent was open, some of those vapors could have drifted down into the trailer.

This situation happened to me just a few weeks ago. The wife and I had just returned to the Monte after being gone for a few hours. Upon entering there was this faint smell of what seemed to be odors from the black or gray tank. We tried to find where the smell was the strongest with the “sniff test”. It smelled the strongest under the stairs to the bedroom. Also, when outside and sniffed in the basement, it was strong there too. At that point, I naturally thought I had a top tank seam separation like so many others have had. There was no wet or damp spots so I thought it might be on the top of the tank. Did all the usual sniffing at the vents on the roof but no smell at all. Rarely do I ever have any odor problem from any tank. I figured at this point, I would tackle this problem once I got home. A day later a fellow camper was outside with me, I told him about my problem and we both started looking again. Luckily for me, the problem ended up being a very small propane leak on the street side propane tank. It was just small enough to make a sewer smell and not the overwhelming smell of propane like you usually get. Hopefully, this might be your problem and be a quick and easy fix.

Did you find the source of your sewer smell.

Check the washer drain if you don yeah we don't have a washer attached it can allow the odor into the rig. I have seen it happen.
