Bed room door restaint

Picked up our 3721RL and found the strap that holds the bed room door open had pull off the screw. So I repaired and reattached at the same point the factory had.

Next time I run the slide in the strap was pulled off the fastener within an inch of travel.

What is the purpose of this restraint?

How did you fix the problem?

That strap is worthless and would not keep my door secure. I installed this and now the door does not move during travel
